Hell Fire & Paradise Module 1 – Circle 4 Is the Hell Fire only for the people who do not believe in Allah swt & His Messengers (pbut)? Abu Hurayrah (ra) reported that the Messenger of Allah pbuh said, "Avoid the seven sins that will condemn the one who commits them to Hell". They asked, "What are they, O Messenger of Allah (saw)?" He said, "Associating anything in worship with Allah (swt); magic and witchcraft; killing anyone whose killing Allah (swt) has forbidden, except in the course of justice; consuming ribaa; consuming the wealth of the orphan; running away from the battlefield; and slandering the reputation of innocent, chaste believing women". (Bukhari & Muslim) Module 1 – Circle 4 How large is the Hell Fire? Depth: Abu Hurairah (ra) states, "Once while we were sitting in the company of Rasulullah pbuh we heard the sound of a dropping object. Then Rasulullah pbuh asked: "Do you know what sound it is ?" "Allah and His Rasul know best ". We replied. "This is a stone which was dropped by Allah from the mouth of Jahannam, and it has landed on the bottom after 70 years of continuous falling ; this was the sound of the falling of the same stone." [Muslim] Walls: The Prophet pbuh said, "Hell Fire is made up of four thick walls, each wall a distance of forty years."(Tirmidhi) Gates: "And verily, Jahannam is the promised place for them all! Entering into it are seven gates; for each of these gates are assigned (special) class (of sinners) ." [Qur'an 15:43-44] Module 1 – Circle 4 What are the conditions inside the Hell Fire? Rasulullah pbuh narrated : "Jahannam was heated for a thousand years and its fire turned red; It was then heated for another thousand years and it became white; it was again heated for another thousand years and it turned black. At present, Jahannam is pitch black and dark." [Tirmidhi] Abu Huraira narrated: Allah's Apostle said, "Your (ordinary) fire is one of 70 parts of the (Hell) Fire." Someone asked, "O Allah's Apostle This (ordinary) fire would have been sufficient (to torture the unbelievers)," Allah's Apostle said, "The (Hell) Fire has 69 parts more than the ordinary (worldly) fire, each part is as hot as this (worldly) fire." (Bukhari 4.487) Module 1 – Circle 4 What is the fuel of the Hell Fire? "O Muslims ! Save yourselves and your families from the Fire whose fuel is men and stones." [Qur'an 66:6] Module 1 – Circle 4 Will the punishment of the Hell Fire be the same for everybody? Rasulullaah pbuh said: "Among the men of Jahannam, the least punishment given will be that both his shoes and laces will be made of fire, which will make his head boil like a cauldron such, that he will think that he is receiving the most severe punishment, although his punishment is the least." [Bukhari, Muslim] "The Hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire." [Qur'aan 4:145] Module 1 – Circle 4 How will people be punished in the Hell Fire? 'Over their heads will be poured boiling water. With it will be melted what is within their bodies. As well as (their) skins." [Qur'aan 22: 19-20] "If they implore relief they will be granted water like melted brass, but this will scale their faces, how dreadful the drink! How uncomfortable a couch to recline on!" [Qur'aan 18: 29] Module 1 – Circle 4 Will people die in the Hell Fire? "Those who reject Our Signs. We shall soon hurl into the Fire:. As often as their skins are roasted through, We shall replace these for fresh skins, that they may taste the Chastisement:, for Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise." [Qur'an 4:56] Quranic Miracle Module 1 – Circle 4 Is it unfair that people are punished like this? The Prophet, peace be upon him, explained: "On the day of judgement a disbeliever will be asked: 'Suppose you had as much gold as to fill the earth, would you offer it to ransom yourself from the hell-fire?' He will reply: 'Yes!' Then it will be said to him: 'You were asked for something easier than that, that you should join none in worship with Allah, and submit yourself to Him, but you refused'" (Bukhari). Module 1 – Circle 4 Is the Hell Fire a small price to pay for committing sins on the Earth? Anas ibn Maalik said that: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The most affluent of the people in this world, of those who will go to Hell, will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and dipped once in the Fire. Then it will be said: O son of Adam, did you ever see anything good? Did you ever have any pleasure? He will say: No, by Allah, O Lord. Then the most destitute of the people in this world, of those who will enter Paradise, will be brought and dipped once in Paradise, and it will be said to him: O son of Adam, did you ever see anything bad? Did you ever experience any hardship? He will say: No, by Allah, O Lord. I never saw anything bad and I never experienced any hardship.” (Muslim 2807) Module 1 – Circle 4 How are believers sins purified? •Patience during trials and illnesses •Pain during dying (Sakarat al mowt) •Punishment of the grave •Punishment during the Day of Judgement •Punishment in the Hell Fire Module 1 – Circle 4 How will believers settle wrongs between themselves? The Messenger pbuh said, "The believers will be saved from the Fire then they will be kept on a bridge between Paradise and Hell. They will settle their accounts with one another for any wrongs that existed between them in this world, until they are purified and cleansed, and will be permitted to enter Paradise. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, each of them will know his dwelling in Paradise better than he knew his dwelling in this world" (Bukhari) Module 1 – Circle 4 Who will be the first to enter Paradise? Anas (ra) reported that the Messenger pbuh said: "I will come to the gates of paradise and ask for it to be opened. The gatekeeper will ask, "Who are you?" I will say, "Muhammad". The gatekeeper will say, "I was ordered not to open the gate for anyone else before you"". (Muslim) Module 1 – Circle 4 Who will be the next to enter Paradise? Abu Hurayrah (ra) reported that the Prophet pbuh said, "Jibreel came to me, and showed me the gate of Paradise through which my ummah will enter". Abu Bakr said, "O Messenger of Allah (saw), would that I had been with you to see it!". The Messenger of Allah (saw) "But you, O Abu Bakr, will be the first of my ummah to enter Paradise". Abu Hurayrah (ra) reported that the Prophet pbuh said: "We are the last, but we will be the first on the Day of Resurrection. We will be the first of mankind to enter Paradise". Module 1 – Circle 4 Will the Poor enter Paradise before the Rich? 'Abdullaah ibn 'Amr reported that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, "Do you know who will be the first of my ummah to enter Paradise?" I said, "Allah and His Messenger know best". He said, "The poor of the Muhajireen. They will come to the gate of Paradise on the Day of Resurrection and ask for it to be opened. The gatekeepers will say to them, "Have you been brought to account?" They will say, "What do we need to be brought to account for? We were carrying our swords and fighting for the sake of Allah (swt) until we died." Then the gates will be opened for them and they will stay there for forty years before anyone else enters". (AlHaakim) Module 1 – Circle 4 Will the sinful believers ever enter Paradise? Abu Hurayrah (ra) reported a lengthy Hadith on how the Prophet pbuh described the Hereafter, and in which he said: "...When Allah swt has finished judging mankind, and wants to bring whomever He wills out of Hell by His Mercy, He will order angels to bring forth those upon who He wishes to bestow His mercy of the people who never associated anything in worship with Allah swt, and who said, "Laa ilaaha illaah Allah". The angels will recognise them in Hell, and will know them by the mark of sujood on their foreheads. The Fire will consume all of a man except the mark of sujood which Allah swt has forbidden the Fire to consume. They will be brought forth, having been burned in the Fire, the water of life will be poured on then, and they will grow like seeds left by silt after a flood".
