Governor-General's Award, Petrarch Award for Poetry. The Bull Calf The poem “The Bull Calf” by Irving Layton thoroughly describes a bull calf getting killed at its young age. In the poem, Layton used metaphor to compare the slain bull calf and the deposed Richard II of England.
