and procedures prescribed by the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and the
regulations made under the OHSA are complied with. All Staff at the college are
to be trained and for more details on WHMIS or training please contact OHS

worker. This information will help workers work safely with the hazardous
chemical and biological materials at their workplace.
There are three major components to WHMIS: Labels, Material Safety Data
Sheets (MSDS) and Worker Education

Know the closest exit to your working area. Signs are posted inside all
classrooms and offices to direct you to the closest exit.
If you have a student or colleague with a disability make sure you know how to
assist this person to exit the building. Flashing alarms are also installed in key
areas of the college to assist hearing impaired staff and students.
When the alarm sounds, immediately exit the building in an orderly manner and
get away from the building, so that fire trucks can have unimpeded access to the
building.
Fire Marshals (wearing red baseball caps) are responsible for making sure
everyone has exited the building. Students and staff will be allowed back into a
building only after the Fire Marshal has declared it safe.
