UCLA’s Early Academic Outreach Program Presents “High School College Conference” March 8, 2014 Early Academic Outreach Program EAOP’s Goals Since 1975, EAOP has continuously worked to increase access to higher education for California’s educationally disadvantaged students. We have served as UCLA’s program for college preparedness to middle school and high school students in the greater Los Angeles area. Parent Ambassador Aug. 9 & 10 For parents Summer residential program where parents are trained by EAOP staff on college prep information. The goal is to have parents become education advocates and provide college information to their community. Based on a 2013 Senior Survey (2,626 EAOP students): • 81% of program participants completed and passed their “A-G” courses • 74% of program participants completed their “A-G” coursed AND registered/took the ACT or SAT exam • 80% of program participants applied, were accepted, AND enrolled in postsecondary institutions upon high school graduation We Train Students to WIN! Subsidized Stafford Loan: no interest or monthly payments until 6 months after graduation Unsubsidized Stafford Loan: interest begins to accumulate when loan is dispersed. Monthly payments begin after graduation. PLUS Loans: Loans for parents to help pay for their child’s college education. Private Loans : Private loans have higher and variable interest rates. They have no grace period and no opportunity to have loans pardoned.
