EAOP’s Goals
Since 1975, EAOP has continuously worked to increase access to higher education
for California’s educationally disadvantaged students. We have served as UCLA’s
program for college preparedness to middle school and high school students in the
greater Los Angeles area.
We provide FOUR KEY services:

Math and Science Academy May 10
For 9th-11th grade EAOP students
Students build math and science skills while
learning about various career opportunities
that are available through math and science
degrees.
Parent Ambassador Aug. 9 & 10
For parents
Summer residential program where
parents are trained by EAOP staff on
college prep information. The goal is to
have parents become education advocates
and provide college information to their
community.

For rising 10th/11th grade EAOP students
Summer residential program that builds
student’s academic foundation through
rigorous writing classes and creative handson experiences/activities.
College Application Boot Camp June 28-29
For rising 12th grade EAOP students
An intensive commuter program where students
participate in a college application, financial aid
application, and personal statement workshop.

Selecting Students
Student Selection Criteria
>Demonstrate academic potential
>1st generation college student
>Family Income
>Attending a school with limited college prep curriculum
>Reside in a community with low college going rates
>Attending a school with below average SAT/ACT exam scores
>Teacher/counselor recommendations
To stay in EAOP students must:
>Maintain at least a 2.4 GPA or in the process of achieving a 2.4 GPA
>Attend EAOP meetings at school sites
>Attend EAOP events at UCLA
>Visit the Site Coordinator at their school on a regular basis

ACTIVE EAOP students graduate with more college OPTIONS!
Based on a 2013 Senior Survey (2,626 EAOP students):
• 81% of program participants completed and passed their “A-G” courses
• 74% of program participants completed their “A-G” coursed AND
registered/took the ACT or SAT exam
• 80% of program participants applied, were accepted, AND enrolled in
postsecondary institutions upon high school graduation

Part time job. Amount granted depends on financial need

Money borrowed and must be paid back with interest.
 Subsidized Stafford Loan: no interest or monthly payments until 6 months after
graduation
 Unsubsidized Stafford Loan: interest begins to accumulate when loan is dispersed.
Monthly payments begin after graduation.
 PLUS Loans: Loans for parents to help pay for their child’s college education.
 Private Loans : Private loans have higher and variable interest rates. They have
no grace period and no opportunity to have loans pardoned.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
On June 15, 2012, President Obama announced that undocumented immigrants who entered
the US before the age of 16 may be eligible for “Deferred Action”. If granted, they will NOT be
deported and qualify for a work permit renewable every 2 years.
To be eligible you must show that you:
>Came to the US before the age of 16
>Have continuously resided in the US since
June 15,2007-Present
>Were under the age of 31 as of June 15,
2012
>Entered w/o inspection before June 15, 2012
or lawful immigration status expired as of
June 15, 2012
>Have not been convicted of a felony, significant
misdemeanor, or 3 misdemeanors, and do not
otherwise pose a threat to national security or
public safety
>Were physically present in the US on June 15,
2012, & at the time of making your request for
