Essay Requirements
In three pages, you will address the various social contract philosophers,
Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau, and how their philosophies are depicted and
portrayed in the film The Dark Knight. You can choose one of three structures
for your paper.
1. Compare Batman to Jean Jacques Rousseau, the Joker to Thomas
Hobbes, and Harvey Dent/Two-Face to John Locke; OR
2. Describe how the philosophy of one (1) of the social contract philosophers
is shown in Batman, the Joker, or Harvey Dent/Two-Face; OR
3. Describe how one character shows the philosophies of all three social
contract philosophers, Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau.
Your paper will be graded on your writing and arguments, specifically your
synthesis of the information in class and the film. To do this well, use specific
examples from class lectures, notes and assignments with specific examples
from the film.
