Lines 1-6
King
George
III
An old, mad, blind, despised, and dying king,-Princes, the dregs of their dull race, who flow
Through public scorn,--mud from a muddy spring,-Rulers who neither see, nor feel, nor know,
But leech-like to their fainting country cling,
Till they drop, blind in blood, without a blow,-The leeches sucking blood
represent the government’s
oppression of the people
Selfish rulers that
are blind to the
condition of the
people

Lines 7-10
“Liberticide”
“Liberte`” - French for “liberty”
“Cide” – Suffix for “killer”
Pesticide – Pest
Liberticide – Liberty
A people starved and stabbed in the untilled field,-An army, which liberticide and prey
Makes as a two-edged sword to all who wield,-Golden and sanguine laws which tempt and slay;
“Two-edged sword to all
who wield” – There can
never be a winner in the
battle between the
starving people and the
government, symbolized
by the army
Golden – Represents the temptation
of wealth
Sanguine – A brownish red color that
symbolizes blood and represents and
the slain liberty of the people
