Introduction
PERPETUAL CALENDAR
Welcome to the coldest season
Even winter has its plus points including loads of ideas for fashion
addicts thanks to a slew of new winter trends just waiting to be
discovered!
In fact, winter is a great time to flaunt coats, quilted jackets and
furs in an array of disparate versions but also scarves and hats which,
in addition to keeping us warm also add a touch of personality for
a feel good look! This means that you can opt for even the brightest
colours because who says that winter infers back to black? Light lilac,
for example, is the perfect shade for all occasions. Refined and elegant
it adds a touch of pizzazz to any outfit.
There are so many ways to pamper yourself in winter and they
don’t necessarily involve going to a spa. When it's cold and miserable
outside, it's lovely to while away several hours indulging yourself.
ADV VACHERON
So here are some delightful ways to pamper yourself with makeup,
creams and treatments that will make you feel more beautiful… and,
if this doesn’t work, treat yourself to a pleasant moment of relaxation
at one of Milan’s best pasticcerie or its more exclusive gastronomic
destinations (either historical or trendy) which make this city a real
temple of taste!

Towards Expo 2015
T
here are a few months to go to the beginning
of Expo 2015, the World Fair that, from 1 May
to 31 October next year, will make Milan the
world capital of topics linked to nutrition.
“Feeding the planet. Energy for life.” is, in fact,
the theme chosen for the event which, according to
tradition, will be enhanced by myriad initiatives.
This year has already seen a significant increase of
Expo’s visibility in the city.
The eagerly-awaited tickets for Expo are now
on sale! www.expo2015.org
Expo Gate: the new gateway to Milan
The two booth-like pavilions of Expo Gate were recently
opened in the heart of the city. Designed as an info
point and a place to share and exchange ideas on topics
related to Expo 2015, for 18 months they will serve
as a stage for multimedia interdisciplinary events
connected to the World of Expo.
Expo Gate is located in via Beltrami, in a highly central
position between the Castello Sforzesco – the site
of the Universal Exposition of 1906 in Milan – and via
Dante, the street along which the flags of countries
participating at Expo Milano 2015 are displayed.
Its location symbolizes its role as a gateway between
Milan and the Expo, in the same way as Milan has
always been considered a bridge between Italy and the
rest of the world.
Open daily from 10am to 8pm, besides serving as
an info and ticket point where visitors can obtain
information about the event, purchase merchandise and
buy tickets in advance, Expo Gate is also a true breeding
ground of ideas.
The structure
Expo Gate is a double modular transparent building
boasting a framework that is not only light in terms of
shape but also in terms of environmental impact.
Designed by Alessandro Scandurra, the structure’s two
pavilions is arranged around a central square supported
by two large reticular, aerial frameworks.
The flexibility and transparency of the structure serve
as an example, paving the way for new, more direct
communication systems and exhibition sites. In fact, two
large ribbed vaultscreen-like structures will act as a support
for the ongoing transmission of information in real time.

reativity, design and entrepreneurship are the key
elements that have driven the Damiani family for
almost one century. A family bound by a deep passion
for an art that has been handed down from father to son and one
that has also been transmitted to the third generation who now
manages the business.
Boasting almost one hundred years of tradition, since the very
beginning, the Damiani Group has stood out on account of the
peerless quality of its products, the raw materials used and the
exclusive design of its collections: a perfect meld of creativity,
research and innovation, combined with an in-depth knowledge
of the art of goldsmithery.
The birthplace of excellence
Valenza, the birthplace of Italy’s finest jewelry-making tradition
is where the history of the Italian luxury brand of high-end jewelry
began. It was, in fact, in 1924 that Enrico Grassi, the founding
father of the family of jewelers, began designing and producing
diamond jewelry, small masterpieces created for noble families,
who soon earmarked him as their jeweler of choice. In the years
that followed, Damiani made a name for itself in the world of
Italian jewelry, heralded as the highest expression of classicism,
equilibrium and beauty.
A precious anniversary
for DAMIANI
Currently celebrating its 90th anniversary,
Damiani jewelry represents the highest
expression of Italian goldsmithery throughout
the world, unique pieces created with passion
and craftsmanship, handed down from father
to son for three generations.
Text: Stefania Vida
14_MILAN LUXURY
Ever-faithful to its heritage, the third generation also followed in
its family’s footsteps with passion, creativity and commitment,
expanding the development process and accelerating the
transition from a family-run business to a corporate organization,
with the opening of international branches and boutiques in
several of the world’s most prestigious, important streets.
A special collection
To mark its 90th anniversary, Damiani has designed an exclusive
limited edition consisting of 10 pieces of jewelry, each inspired by
a decade of Damiani’s history from 1924 to-date. From gemstones
to pearls, each exemplary piece was created in nine numbered
pieces to tell the story of the company through the decades.
Additionally, to mark the occasion, a book on the history of
Damiani entitled “Damiani. Alchimia del Desiderio” has also
been published. From its founding to its international successes
including 18 Diamond International Awards, the renowned jewelry
house is celebrating this important milestone with a beautiful
book that traces its love of tradition, creativity and design.

the uber-luxe Manzoni 24 fur collections and its
high-end flagship store in the Quadrilatero della Moda.
When and how was Condorpelli established and,

into being? Ours is the story of a family who, for three
generations, have created luxe fur collections, investing
passion and tireless dedication to our work, using the timehonoured experienced garnered over the years to continue
to achieve only the highest levels of workmanship. “Madein-Italy” working techniques, quality and artisanship are
the hallmark features of Condorpelli, apparent in each and
every one of its garments. Over time, consumer demands
have changed radically and, about 8 years ago, we
decided to create the Manzoni 24 collection – a dynamic,
contemporary line – designed to reflect the rapidly
changing trends in fur fashions.
Tell us about “Made-in-Italy” working techniques. Our

who though using avant-garde techniques nevertheless
continue to draw upon time-honoured sartorial traditions.
What are the standout features of a Manzoni 24

These qualities are further enhanced by in-depth research on
only the noblest materials and the use of innovative designs,
that make each garment a statement piece.
What kind of experience awaits customers visiting

Insider's view | Furs
Furs | Insider's view
To give some illustrious examples, furs are the musthaves of Fendi’s A/W 2014 collection. In fact, Fendi’s
double F logo comes from ‘fun fur’ the name coined by
Karl Lagerfeld. For more than fifty years, the brand has
been experimenting with new working techniques and
creative gimmicks. This year, the company is wowing the
crowds with several icons that have sealed the success
of the couture house reinterpreted with surprising
materials and new pairings: two-tone fur, fluorescent
stripes and contrasting details. www.fendi.com
Fur also features big-time in the Gucci collection
signed by Frida Giannini: in combination with exotic
prints, military details and sailor pants it creates a
sixties-inspired look. There are astrakhan jackets but
also woolen coats that, from afar, look like fur thanks to
animalier prints. www.gucci.com

I
n 1965, when Karl Lagerfeld partnered with Italian
brand Fendi, they came up with the slogan ‘fun fur’, a
definition that was destined to make history. Possibly
not a concept that would appeal to animal-rights activists
but a perfect synthesis marking a style revolution that said
farewell to stuffy, old-time furs and hello to soft, whimsical
garments, either natural or coloured, alone or in combination
with other materials.
On the catwalks
Fur is now making a comeback as the hottest thing in fashion:
outerwear or accessories, coats or jackets, either long or
short, and vests in fox and sable, astrakhan and mink have
taken the catwalks of countless designer labels by storm.

Featuring a similar aesthetic, is Just Cavalli’s “glamrock-chic” collection: sand-coloured jeans and floral
prints are paired with rainbow-coloured fox jackets or
short, leopard skin effect lapin bombers, to create the by
now proverbial Cavalli look, destined for a young target,
for either indoor or outdoor wear.

▼SIMONETTA RAVIZZA
Short jackets paired with leather
skirts or pants: this was one
of the outings showcased during
the presentation of the designer’s
2014 F/W collection.
Even Armani, in his young line, presented daring,
luxe pieces, including a stunning, multi-coloured
kidassia jacket (a kind of rare Mongolian goat). His
main collection, on the contrary, featured more classic
items, such as ultra-elegant sheepskin coats with fur
details, available also for men, and pony-effect calfskin
blousons. www.armani.com
One of this season’s key trends is to add a touch of
colour to fur: deliberately improbable hues such as prune
were also showcased in the collection presented by

The furs presented by Valentino, often photographed
wearing fur-lined coats, were mainly for men: in this
case too, natural shades were completely transformed,
giving life to patchwork effects. www.valentino.com
The specialists
Then there are the fur specialists, i.e. strictly artisan
brands that have worked in the industry since their
inception.
Simonetta Ravizza is an Italian cult brand positioned in
the luxury segment: over the past few years, Simonetta’s
fresh creativity, focusing on clean-cut lines and new
technologies, has livened up the Maison Annabella’s
more traditional look. Fox and sable, peken or classic
mink, often combined in tandem, feature deliberately
artificial colours, ranging from prune to petroleum.
Leather leggings pair perfectly with the designer’s
vibrant look. www.simonettaravizza.it
A mainstay of the fur business since 1885, over
the years, Dellera has dressed Italian soldiers and
celebrities, including Liz Taylor. In the eighties, the brand
also created fur garments for Enrico Coveri. It now offers
a vast selection, ranging from fur-lined raincoats to
reversible cardigans, right up to more classic pieces in
lapin, murmansky, mink or sable also combined with
knitwear and lace. www.dellera.com
Manzoni 24, on the contrary, Condorpelli’s new brand
offers mink, fox, suede, shearling or precious sable,
but also unlined mink or karakul, either sharp-cut, or
doubled in jersey. Its collection sees a predominance
of natural colours and fluid, minimal lines for timeless
garments. www.manzoni24.it
At its new showroom in via Albricci, Canali showcases
outerwear in mink or lynx, sable and fox rendered
almost unrecognizable thanks to the use of brilliant
colours and unusual shapes. www.pelliccecanali.it
Accessories are a ‘must’
While fur is fashionable, accessories add just
that extra touch of chic: sable, mink, chinchilla,
fox or beaver, in myriad versions, colours and
different styles embellish bags and hats, scarves
or gloves, stoles and outerwear, ponchos and real
fur jewels. And fur, better still if combined with
cashmere, also becomes a must to decorate your
home, with cushions and throws that have never
been so warm, soft or deliciously luxe.

Christian Louboutin, the king of women’s

Christian’s idea was not just to create beauty products, he
wanted to go beyond the packaging, formula and colours to

Brit Rhythm is the new men’s fragrance from Burberry
inspired by the world of music. Music is, in fact, at the centre
of the brand’s activity, starting from its fashion shows, events
and soundtracks, right up to Burberry Acoustic, the brand’s
musical platform dedicated to emerging talents. Brit Rhythm
brings this passion to the most important launch ever of a

numerous aspects, including, first and foremost, awareness
and sensuality... all wrapped in chic black-and-gold packaging,
debossed with the bold Guccissima pattern and capped off
with the maison’s signature interlocking letters.
Sheer, unadulterated femininity
What is lighter than a feather? This year’s Chanel Plumes
précieuses collection takes its inspiration from the humble
feather. Delicate and ultra-feminine, the feather floats through
the world of Chanel landing on a brooch, a cape or an evening
gown…to transform itself into a collection consisting of soft,
subtle tones, glittering with gold and silver. Stunning evening
makeup, like jewellery made of feathers and sparkling
diamonds with a palette to re-enchant the classics. Subtle and
sensual, a touch of peach melts delicately into the skin as an
eyeshadow or an illuminating blush brightened with pearly
accents. A grey duo, highlighted by a deep black, sculpts eyes
and is illuminated by silver, white and gold, embodying all the
radiance of jewellery.
Eau d’Hermès, Calèche, Equipage, Amazone, Bel Ami, Rocabar,
Hiris, Rouge Hermès... are not simply words... they are
perfumes. Perfumes that tell stories, with a beginning but no
end... Hermès has gathered them in a unique, sophisticated
collection (for her but also for him), where each composition
marks the presence of the person wearing it with a particular
aura. These sophisticated perfumes are classics because each
time that you wear them, whether it be the twentieth or the
hundredth, it’s as if you had dabbed them on for the first time!
It’s no secret that all women desire a perfect hairstyle that
lasts, at least, for a few days. To satisfy this requirement,
Diego dalla Palma, beauty guru of note, has created an
exclusive line of products. On sale at his Milanese boutique

▼BURBERRY
Brit Rhythm is a youthful, instinctive
fragrance for men. Head notes include
basil, verbena and cardamom with a shot
of juniper berries. Electrifying notes
of black leather, patchouli and Benzoin
resin distinguish the heart of the perfume,
enriched by sensual base notes of cedar,
incense and Tonka bean.
Armani. A name is enough to grasp all the appeal imbued in the
exclusive fragrances, including Eau de nuit, created by worldfamed designer ‘king Giorgio’. First and foremost, it’s black,
nocturnal and masculine. Eau de Nuit, the new men’s perfume
launched by the maison, is the darker, more luxurious side of
Eau pour Homme, blending notes of spicy citruses woven with
cedar and iris. Bottled in a flacon mirroring the same lines as
its twin, it comes in a more elegant, smooth black glass version.
Eau de Nuit thus opens a new chapter in the history of Armani
perfumes, an ode to elegance, dedicated to sophisticated,
savvy men in search of a unique signature fragrance that can
be worn at all times of the day.
►ARMANI
All the elegance of the Armani world is
imbued in his fragrances. Taking its cue
from the destructured jacket with which

elegance, it is not mere chance that his

Delights are
never enough

purchase, taste or give as a gift,

Buon Appetito!
Unique Tasting | Insider's view
D
owntown Milan offers an array of historic
boutiques brimming over with culinary
delights, a real piece of Milanese history. A
unique opportunity to lose yourself amidst
the atmosphere of this city. Here is a selection of the best
gourmet shopping stops in Milan.
Sweet addresses
Pasticceria Cova in via Montenapoleone is one of those places
whose appellation ‘historic venue’ is fully justified. A cult
destination for gourmands since 1817, it has had the singular
honour of being mentioned by name and, what’s more, several
times, in the works of Ernest Hemingway, who loved its
atmosphere and delicacies. www.pasticceriacova.com
Pralines and homemade pastries, biscuits and panettone,
“veneziana”, chocolates, sweets and over thirty different types
of cream cakes, cannoncini and éclairs... Pasticceria Marchesi
in via Santa Maria alla Porta, 11/a still retains its original early
nineteenth century atmosphere and has a counter at which you
can drink a cup of coffee accompanied by tiny, mouth watering
treats. www.pasticceriamarchesi.it
STEFANIA VIDA
▼PASTICCERIA MARCHESI
The goodies turned out
by this must-visit pasticceria,
both on a daily basis as well as
for festive occasions, include
Colomba for Easter, Veneziana
for New Year’s Eve and Panettone
year-round.
Since 1911, pastry shop and chocolatier Giovanni Galli has
specialized in the artisanal production and sale of marron glacés,
Boeri chocolate covered cherries, pralines and almond paste.
www.giovannigalli.com
Zàini, the historic Milanese chocolate factory, is a timeless
location near Corso Como decked out with period furniture and
a counter at which customers can savour authentic cakes, hot
chocolate laced with violet flowers or rose buds, sweet treats and
bread and chocolate. The ideal place to taste and buy some of the
best chocolate in town.
Once in a lifetime
Try a “panzerotto” at Luini’s, a pocket of pizza crust stuffed with
all sorts of ingredients, including the basic mozzarella cheese
and tomatoes. A Milanese institution since 1940, just a stone’s
throw from the Duomo and la Rinascente. You will recognize it by
the crowds queuing up on the pavement! www.luini.it
◄IL SALUMAIO DI MONTENAPOLEONE
Set against the stunning backdrop of Palazzo
Bagatti, you will find a charming restaurant
owned by one of the city’s most iconic
delicatessens offering myriad temptations and
culinary delicacies including canapés, pate,
cheeses, the finest cold cuts and the best
dishes of Italian tradition.
28_MILAN LUXURY
▲GIOVANNI GALLI
At this Milanese temple of marron glacé,
particular attention is paid to the working
of the chestnuts which are dipped
in syrup and then sugar-coated
to ensure that their goodness will last
for a few days.

A special experience
Those visiting Milan will have noted the iconic trams trundling
through the streets of the city. Among these, one in particular
will not go unnoticed: ATMosfera. In fact, several cars of
this vintage tram have been refurbished to host the most
characteristic of all Milanese restaurants, taking discerning
diners on a sightseeing tour of the city. As they cruise the
streets, diners can enjoy a sought-after dinner featuring a
blend of enticing flavours highlighted in tasty menus. The
tram-restaurant departs each evening at 8pm from piazza
Castello, corner of via Beltrami, and returns to the tram stop
after a 2-hour tour of several of the city’s most romantic
districts! Booking is essential (Zani Viaggi, T: 02 867131,
www.zaniviaggi.it).

Museo
Poldi Pezzoli
Milan’s charming Museo Poldi Pezzoli, formerly the home
of nobleman Gian Giacomo Pezzoli, is situated in via
Manzoni – one of the city’s most elegant streets – just
moments away from piazza della Scala. The museum
hosts precious collections and priceless masterpieces
of Italian art and is currently showcasing a wonderful
exhibition entitled “Le dame dei Pollaiolo. Una bottega
fiorentina del Rinascimento”. Gathered together for the
first time, the exhibition serves as a unique opportunity
to see Piero del Pollaiolo’s ‘Portrait of a young woman’, a
symbol of the Museum, alongside the other three ‘sisters’,
on loan from Berlin, Florence and New York. Featuring
the four young women and other paintings, drawings,
sculptures, jewellery and embroidery, the exhibition aims
to highlight the impressive, wide-ranging talent of the
Pollaiolo brothers, Piero and Antonio.

Il Salumaio di Montenapoleone - formerly a historic Milanese

Bagatti Valsecchi. Set in a charming private courtyard, in summer,
visitors can enjoy a fabulous “al fresco” lunch. An ideal spot for those
in need of a quick aperitivo, a snack or a break from a hectic day’s

Il Salumaio di Montenapoleone
Pasticceria Cova in via Montenapoleone is one of those places
whose appellation ‘historic venue’ is fully justified. A cult destination
for gourmands since 1817, it has had the singular honour of being
mentioned by name and, what’s more, several times, in the works of
Ernest Hemingway, who loved its atmosphere and delicacies. If you’re
considering going there to pay homage to this literary genius, you can
rest assured that you will return for other reasons: for example, the
sheer exquisiteness of its cakes, pastries, ice-cream, sugared almonds
or savoury snacks, created by master pastry chefs based on timehonoured recipes. Perfect for an ‘Italian-style’ breakfast, consisting of
coffee and brioches, Cova also offers the option of a light lunch.
