Mount rushmore,
south dakota

 The iconic faces of four of our former Presidents of the United States are carved
on the Black Hills of South Dakota. They are George Washington, Thomas
Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. They were chosen
because of what each President represents:
 George Washington represents the struggle for independence
 Thomas Jefferson represents the idea of government by the people
 Abraham Lincoln represents his ideas on equality and the permanent
union of the states
 Theodore Roosevelt represents the 20th century role of the U.S. in world
affairs
 The mountain itself was named for Charles E. Rushmore and it took 14
years to carve.
