Scouts are not allowed to leave the campsite without the permission from a leader in their own group Swimming is only permitted under the supervision of a leader in your own group Canoes/boats can only be used with the permission of a leader. A life west is to be used at all times! Mobile phones, portable games and music players must be swithched of during all activities. These can be used in your own campsite during your free time and not bothering other scouts, birds nor vikings. Leaders have the right to confiscate these devices for the duration of the camp if rules are broken Irresponsible or non-approved use of fire is strictly forbidden and will get you sent home from Nordtreff (at your own expense). Alcohol and narcotics are prohibited for all participants, including leaders. Scouts and leaders breaking these rules will immediately be sent home at their own expense. Smoking is only allowed on approved places and not inside tents. Page 5 Camp ABC A Alcohol: Alcohol and narcotics are prohibited for all participants, including leaders. Nordtreff is an official subcamp to the WSJ and must follow their rules. Scouts and leaders breaking these rules will immediately be sent home at their own expense. Smoking is only allowed on approved places. Address: Scoutlägret Nordträff (The scouts name) (troop name) 370 24 Nättraby Sweden B C Badges: Badge swapping is a popular activity at a World Scout Jamboree. Bring extra scarfs and badges if you want to swap. Adults (18+) can´t swap badges with minors (under 18) – WSJ rule. Camp badge: All participants will get their own Nordtreff camp badge on arrival. You will also get a special Camp in Camp badge during the camp. There are also additional badges for those who complete the pre-task (a Viking style hat or helmet) and one for doing a series of activities during the camp. Camp In Camp: Nordtreff will get 100 24-hour visitors Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. They will arrive around lunchtime and stay with us until the next day when we get new visitors. We will give our guests accommodation (in tents), cooking equipment, let them test some Nordic scout activities and most importantly – get to know our scouts. Read more in the CIC Info document. Page 6 Camp ABC Campfire: There will an opening ceremony/campfire on Saturday July 30th and one campfire on Friday August 5th. It is also possible to arrange your own campfires in a couple of places – talk to the Viking chief. Departure: Closing campfire is Friday night and everybody must attend. You are free to leave at any time Saturday, but there will be a formal closing ceremony at 10:00. The Nordtreff staff must approve your campsite before you leave. C D Digging: It is ok to dig holes on the campsite, but we must always take care of the topsoil and grass. The grass must be kept “alive” and put back in place when leaving Nordtreff. No hard/sharp foreign objects may be dug down or left on the campsite when leaving. Drugs: Alcohol and narcotics are prohibited for all participants, including leaders. Nordtreff is an official subcamp to the WSJ and must follow their rules. Scouts and leaders breaking these rules will immediately be sent home at their own expense. Smoking is only allowed on approved places. Emergency: 112 is the official emergency number in Sweden. Alert 112 in case of serious emergencies and inform the camp staff / 1st aid station immediately afterwards. The 1st aid station should always handle all non-critical emergencies! e Page 7 Camp ABC F Fire prevention: All tents must have 1 (one) filled bucket with water outside the opening. We expect you to bring your own buckets, but please tell us if this is a (transport) problem. There should also be at least 1 fire extinguisher at all places where propane, gas or other burners are used. Never leave a fire unattended – someone should be there at all times! Fireplace: We can make cooking and campfires at the campsite. These must either be made by removing (and taking care of) the top soil/grass or by raising it above ground. Minimum distance between open fire and tents (where people sleep) is 5 meters. Firewood: Yes, we have firewood, but you might have to cut and chop it yourself. First aid: All troops must have their own first aid equipment for minor injuries, headaches etc. All patrols must bring their own basic first aid kit during the hike. There will also be a first aid station at the camp. Flags: Will be raised every day at 08:00 o´clock. G Garbage: All garbage has to be sorted in the following fractions: Food/organic, glass/metal, paper, waste (to be burned). The Golden tent peg: Given to the troop with the coolest campsite. Extra points for constructions, decorations and Viking theme. Page 8 Camp ABC Grease trap: All troops must dig holes for waste water on the camp site. The water has to be filtered and all organic waste removed. Make your own filter with strings or bring a mosquito netting. Remember to take care of the top soil/grass. G Hand wash: There will be marked places for washing hands near the toilets, all other hand or body wash must take place at your own campsite. Please make sure that all scouts (and leaders) wash their hands after visiting the toilets and before every meal. Rubbing alcohol can also be used for disinfection. H Hike: There will be a 24-hour hike for the scouts. It will take place in and around Karlskrona city and is definitely more of a feel-good experience than a wilderness adventure (no long walks). It is also smart to bring some pocket money to use while visiting Karlskrona city. No cooking equipment is required. The patrols might be mixed during the hike, but everyone sleeps at the same place. Internet: There is no Internet access on the camp. Jamboree=WSJ: Yes, everyone who wants to visit the World Scout Jamboree can go there during the Culture Festival Day (Thursday). Busses will pick us up in the morning and drive us back late in the evening. A long day with lots of people and impressions! Read more about this in the Camp In Camp info document. I J Page 9 Camp ABC K Kiosk: There will be a kiosk open twice a day. You can buy candy, ice-cream, sodas etc. Maybe even some scout badges and t-shirts. Cash only and svenska kronor (SEK). Knife: All knifes must be maximum 12cm or shorter (the blade) - WSJ rule. L Leaders meeting: Will take place every day (except Thursday) at 20:30 in Valhalla. Lost property: Lost and found property should be delivered (or retrieved) at Valhalla (the staff tent). M Mail: You can send and receive mail (letters and postcards) at Nordtreff. Buy stamps in the kiosk. See address… Mobile phone: Yes, there is cell phone coverage at Almö, but not at all times or at all places. Don’t count on it! You can charge cell phones (and cameras) in Valhalla, but a leader needs to bring it there for the scouts. Mobile phones are only to be used during the scout’s spare time, not during activities. Big time “offenders” will get their phone confiscated – can be retrieved by the leaders. Money: Everything at Nordtreff (kiosk, t-shirts…) has to be paid cash and in Swedish krona. It is not possible to use credit cards at the campsite. The hike will pass through Karlskrona and this is equally a good place to Page 10 Camp ABC withdraw money and also to spend some of it. The WSJ also only accepts SEK, but some shops will accept credit cards. M Nature reserve: The campsite is located in a nature reserve. We are not allowed to dig, chop wood or otherwise disturb the nature outside the camp field. NP5K: (Nordisk Patrulje 5-Kamp) The competition will take place on Friday and is open for all scouts, but only the 2 qualified patrols from each country compete for the Nordic boot (trophy). There will also be a prize for the best patrol of all participating patrols. N O Order, Law and: Camp rules are to be followed at all times. Parking: There are limited parking near the campsite. Long time parking is available some 500-1000 meters away. Please check with the camp-staff for updated info about parking. P R Rafts: There is a limited amount of rafts on the campsite, approximately one long and one short for every scout. These rafts are not to be cut, damaged or used for fire wood. Rain: We have ordered sunshine for the duration of the camp. Page 11 Camp ABC S Scout uniform: We use our scout shirt and scarf at all times when outside the camp area and during “formal” gatherings like opening of camp, campfires and rising of flags. Stealing: Is of course prohibited and might be reported to the police. Thieves might be sent home from Nordtreff. Sun: As we haven’t ordered any rain, be sure to use sunblock, drink water and protect your head. Swimming: Allowed outside of activities, only with a leader present and never alone. Smoking: Only in assigned places Swapping: Adults (over 18 years) are not allowed to swap with children (and vice versa). T Tents: All tents should be placed so that you can walk between them without tripping on the guywires (the strings that stabilize the tent). CIC visitors must sleep in tents, not outdoors or in shelters (vindskydd, gapahuk…). Town square: The town square where you will find the silver smith, different kinds of Viking handcraft, try Viking board games, borrow bow & arrow and much more. Open Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Page 12 Camp ABC Ticks: There is a lot of ticks on Almö and the surrounding archipelago. The risk of Borelia or TBE infections causes us to take some special pre-cautionary measures: Daily routines: All scouts have to check themselves for ticks “all over” minimum once a day. Everyone should get help from a friend or leader to check their neck, hair (scalp) and back. All troops must bring special tick removers / pincers. T Ticks likes warm and moist places – check your groin, armpits and scalp extra carefully. Some mosquito repellents also works on ticks. If you see a red ring around tick bites – contact the 1st aid station immediately. Toilets: As usual, the toilets are Bajamaja style and yes – there will toilet “duty”. Remember the importance of proper hygiene. There will be soap and water and/or rubbing alcohol available near all toilets. T-shirt: Most of the Viking style organic eco-cotton Nordtreff t-shirts have been pre-ordered . We have a few extra and these can be bought in the kiosk. The price is SEK 125,- To be paid when picking it up in the camp kiosk. Trophy hunting = stealing Page 13 Camp ABC V Visitors: The best time for families to visit Nordtreff is Wednesday afternoon/evening and Friday. Visitors must report to the camp staff when arriving. Valhalla: The place to be for all Gods (leaders/16+) at night. Here you will find games, food, snacks, coffee and more. Valhalla is also the place for all leader meetings. W Water: The water taps are TAPS, all washing up (hand, body, dishes…) must be done at your own campsite. Weapons: It is ok to wear Viking style weapons during the formal gatherings, but not during the rest of the camp. There will be dedicated places to try some of these out – but only under the supervision of an adult leader and with the permission of the camp staff. WSJ: World Scout Jamboree – the “other” camp…. Parents and others not part of Nordtreff who wants to visit the WSJ must buy visitor tickets. Read more on http://www.worldscoutjamboree.se/category/people/vi sitors/ X Y Z X-factor: Will you and your Viking-inspired headpiece have the x-factor at the opening campfire? YES: the word you use when someone asks for help Zzzz: At 23:30 the campsite goes quiet, and it is time to get some sleep. Come on! So can we! Wohl können wir auch ja, bli scoutflickor alla. Old Lang Syne / När lägerelden brunnit ut / Tää ystävyys ei raukene Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and days of auld lang syne?
