Introduction
International Youth Culture Arts Festival was
established in 2008. The festival remains a valuable
showcase for new talent.
In this year of the Seventh Annual Festival, We
will have our Winter Piano Competition in January, 2015.
Many young musicians who are from all over the world
will compete to each other by their talents.
As we all know, this is not just a contest
but a wonderful performance. A great Award
Ceremony will be held at Carnegie Hall on
February 1st, 2015.

“Exceptional authority and impeccable taste” was the description in the New York Times for the playing of
pianist Marc Silverman. His “richly colored sonorities” and “thrilling surges of power” have prompted critics to
compare him to the legendary Josef Hofmann. Dr. Silverman has performed throughout the United States,
Europe, and Asia as a recitalist, soloist with orchestra, and chamber musician, performing televised concerts,
conducting master classes, and presenting lecture-demonstrations on the tradition of romantic pianism and
interpretation.
Marc Silverman is a founding member of the Carnegie Trio. In addition to their international touring and
summer festival residences, they have recorded many works from the standard repertory. As a soloist,
Dr. Silverman has recorded 20th-century works in RCA’s iconic Studio A for international release. An award
winner of the Kapell International Competition, the Gina Bachauer International Competition and the
Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition, Dr. Silverman is frequently quoted in publications including
Chamber Music America, Piano and Keyboard Magazine, the New York Times and the Washington Post.
In 1999, he was named International Consultant to the Nanyang Academy, Singapore’s flagship arts
institution.
The Australian government engaged Dr. Silverman in 2003 and 2007 to serve as Visiting Artist at the
Australian National Academy of Music, the country’s premier institution for the training of classical musicians.
In 2009, he was awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service by the Manhattan School of
Music, the highest award bestowed by the school. Dr. Silverman has been Chairman of the Piano Department at
Manhattan School of Music since 1989 and has coordinated piano chamber music at the school since 1985.

when reviewing Alexander Peskanov Kennedy Center performance of Rachmaninoff’s Third Concerto. Mr. Peskanov’ s
American debut as orchestral soloist came with the National Symphony under Rostropovich, and he has since appeared
internationally with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, SABC Symphony Orchestra, Cape Town Symphony
Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic, as well as
in the United States with the Baltimore, St. Louis, Houston, Utah, Richmond and Pacific Symphonies.
In 2014-2015 Season, Alexander Peskanov will make concert appearences in Poland, Russia and US, including Leonid
Kogan and Elizabeth Gilels Festival at Moscow Conservatory, Stanisław Moniuszko Academy Music in Gdańsk and Bargemusic
in New York.
Mr. Peskanov has performed at the Wolf Trap, Aspen, Grant Park, Newport, Seattle, Vancouver, Canada, Monterrey,
Mexico, Sarasota and Flagstaff festivals, and in coast-to-coast recitals including a piano recital at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln
Center, as part of the series, “Russian Splendor,” the prestigious Van Cliburn Foundation Series in Ft. Worth, Texas, and the
Gina Bachauer Piano Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah. Among the illustrious musicians with whom he has collaborated are
Maurice Andre, Jean-Pierre Rampal and Yo- Yo Ma.
Mr. Peskanov has been a frequent guest artist and clinician at numerous MTA Conventions. His appearances include New
York, California, Maryland, Utah, Idaho, Georgia, Missouri, New Jersey and others.
Alexander Peskanov is also a successful composer of classical works, including piano solos, piano concertos and chamber
music. He has written ten concertos for young pianists, the 1st being selected for the National Federation of Music Clubs’ 2007–2017. The score and recording has been released by Hal Leonard Publications. Recently, Peskanov’s Concerto No. 1 for Piano
and Strings has been broadcasted and performed by Tallinn Chamber Orchestra on Estonian National Radio, and in Brno, Czech
Republic. Last summer, Peskanov’s Concerto No.2 was premiered in Mexico at Zacatecas International Music Festival. The
winners of Greater Laurel MTA Piano Competition will premiere the latest Peskanov’s Concerto No. 10 in November 2014. The
winners of 2015 Brown Piano Concerto Competition will perform his Concerto No. 1 next January. Some new piano works by
Alexander Peskanov are due to be released by Alfred Music in 2014-2015. They will include several piano trios, written for Six
Hands and “Spring Concerto” for Piano and Orchestra.
Alexander Peskanov is the recipient of three special ASCAP awards. His recordings include a CD of his own piano
compositions entitled "Spirits of the Wind – Peskanov Plays Peskanov" which has been featured in a satellite broadcast on
National Public Radio stations. Other recordings include music by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Liszt and Scott Joplin. He has
recorded for Naxos Record’s American Classics series and Musical Heritage.
Mr. Peskanov graduated from the Stoliarsky School of Music in Odessa, Ukraine, and received his Masters and Bachelor
degrees at The Juilliard School in New York. He is also the author of the series of six books entitled: "The Russian Technical
Regimen for the Piano," published by the Willis Music.

Edith Kraft, a native of New York, began her musical studies at age three and made her first solo appearance with
the Hartt Symphony and the Queens Symphony when she was eight. Since then she has appeared as soloist with major
orchestras across the United States, including the Houston Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, and the New York Orchestral
Society. Ms. Kraft has toured the South as soloist with Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony, and has given many recitals
in Europe and this country, especially in the Mid-West. Recitals at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Gardner Museum in
Boston, the Speed Museum in Louisville, Kentucky, and the National Gallery of Art and Phillipps Collection in Washington,
D.C., were attended by standing-room only crowds. Ms. Kraft has appeared as guest artist with the Juilliard String Quartet
and the New York Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet.
The music community has acknowledged Ms. Kraft with honors and awards for her virtuosity and musicianship.
She tied for first prize in the prestigious Walter W. Naumburg Competition, and received first prize in the Atlanta
Symphony Orchestra Competition. Other honors include the Concert Artist’s Guild Award, and the “Youth Merit Laurel”
Award for music from the City of New York, chosen by Maestro Leopold Stokowski. In 1978, she was named “Outstanding
Woman of the Year” and appeared in “Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges”.
A welcome participant in many renowned festivals, Ms. Kraft appeared at the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico,
Rudolf Serkin’s Marlboro Music Festival, the Blossom Music Festival of the Cleveland Orchestra, the Grand Teton Festival,
and the Montreux and Lucerne Festivals in Switzerland. Her performances were greeted with tremendous acclaim
As a scholarship student at The Juilliard School, Edith Kraft studied with Edward Steuermann, Rudolf Firkusny,
and Ania Dorfmann. She earned both a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Juilliard. She had the honor of playing for
Vladimir Horowitz in his home. In 1974, she was appointed Artist-in- Residence at Michigan State University. She is on the
Faculty of The Juilliard School.
At Michigan State University, Ms. Kraft videotaped over a dozen recitals for distribution to National Public
Broadcasting Stations, including a recital with Robert Mann, former first violinist of the Juilliard String Quartet. She is the
author of “Accompanying” and “Sightreading”, articles that were published in “The American Music Teacher” in 1980.
With a growing collection of accolades and awards already behind her, Edith Kraft continues to impress the
musical world with her extraordinary talent. She is a superb pianist who paints intricate and colorful pictures in sound and
the keys sing under her command.

Dr. Roland R. Davis is the winner of over 30 awards as a composer, a performer, and as a scholar and his compositions and
research have been featured at International Conferences and concerts. He has been featured in Carnegie Hall on three occasions and
has garnered awards in both classical and jazz fields. Dr. Davis has worked with Grammy winners, Grammy-nominated artists, and
recognized leaders in many styles of music and he and his compositions have been featured in over 2,500 concerts around the world.
As a composer, Dr. Davis has earned numerous awards in both classical and jazz arenas. He is the winner of both ASCAP
and Downbeat awards for his classical composition for string quartet, Ex Nihilo. This award-winning piece has been performed in
several countries and he has been commissioned to create a number of versions of this piece for ensembles and solo instruments.
Most recently, renowned classical artist Todd Yukumoto commissioned and premiered a version for saxophone ensemble. Before this,
Grammy-nominated artist and member of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Ted Nash, commissioned a version of this piece for soloist with jazz
orchestra and this piece was featured at a showcase concert in New York City with Dr. Davis as the conductor. The Jacob-Knight
award-winner for poetry, Lea Deschenes, commissioned a version that was premiered at world-famous Jordan Hall with Dr. Davis
conducting and Ms. Deschenes performing the speaking role. Vivian Liu commissioned a version for solo piano, The Huangguoshu
Parable, which she premiered in Carnegie Hall to a standing ovation. In the classical arena, Dr. Davis’ works have been featured at
International Conferences and artists that have performed his works include Juilliard artists Roger Greenberg and James Decker;
award-winning poets, dancers and video artists including Salem Mekuria; and other renowned musicians including Harvey Pittel,
Christopher Bush, Darryl Harper, et al. Harvey Pittel said, “Roland’s works have the power to transport us out of our plastic,
everyday worlds into other fantastic places…and we are happy to go along with him!”
As composer in the jazz arena, Dr. Davis has composed works for the leaders in their field: Scott Hamilton, Brian Lynch,
Ralph Lalama, Ted Nash, Alex Brown, and many others. Recently, these artists came together for a concert in New York City to
celebrate the inaugural Roland Davis Jazz Orchestra concert. Dr. Davis was recently honored with a Downbeat award for his
arrangement for jazz vocal group in which he also performed. 3-time Grammy winner and Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra member
Ralph Lalama stated, “Roland is a composer of the highest order and his pieces are full of passion and emotion.” Grammy-winner
Brian Lynch said, “Roland’s pieces are always exciting and challenging to play for the soloist and the ensemble.” Swing tenor
saxophone legend Scott Hamilton asserted, “Roland is in full control of all the compositional techniques from the past and the present.
It is a pleasure to perform his pieces and it is especially a treat knowing he composed them specifically for me.”
As a performer, Dr. Davis has garnered many awards as an instrumentalist and vocalist. He was recently featured in Carnegie
Hall as the winner of an International competition for jazz voice. He has earned 4 Downbeat awards for jazz performance as a
guitarist and as a vocalist and he won a 5th Downbeat award for his re-composition for a cappella jazz ensemble in which he
performed 5 of the 6 vocal parts. Intent on mastering several styles, Dr. Davis has awards for jazz, blues, and commercial music and
has shared the stage with members of bands including Miles Davis, Bruno Mars, the Beach Boys, Tony Bennett, Leann Rimes, Count
Basie, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, and many others.
As a scholar, Dr. Davis is a 2-time Valedictorian, All-American Scholar, Presser Scholar, Phi Beta Kappa member, and
winner of many awards for research, teaching, and scholarship. Recently, his music research won spots at several International
conferences and he lectured to audiences of researchers and performers at the largest practice-based research conferences in Europe
and the U.S. Dr. Davis holds 6 degrees—a Ph.D., 3 Masters degrees, and 2 Undergraduate degrees—with honors including degrees in
Philosophy, Composition, Voice, and Guitar performance from New York University, the New England Conservatory of Music and
the University of Hawaii. He currently teaches at the New School of Music in New York.

Pianist Manuel Laufer has appeared as recitalist, concerto soloist, and
chamber musician in North America, South America, and Europe.
An enthusiastic proponent of new music, he has presented numerous
premieres in venues including Merkin Hall, Le Poisson Rouge, the Bang on
a Can Marathon (NYC), June in Buffalo, and Festival ATEMPO (Caracas
and Paris). He has concertized extensively playing contemporary chamber
music, in duo with soprano Dorothea Hayley and as a core member of
Ensemble Atempo and the New York University Contemporary Music
Ensemble. Also an avid collaborator in the traditional repertoire, he has
participated in the Songfest Professional Program, the Franz-SchubertInstitut at Baden- bei -Wien, and the Orford Arts Centre Summer Academy,
and joined the staff of University of California, Irvine as a collaborative
pianist in 2006/07.
He has served as Adjunct Faculty at NYU Steinhardt, and is currently
advisor to Festival ATEMPO (Caracas), and Artist Faculty at the Blueridge
International Chamber Music Festival (North Vancouver).
