THE GREATEST LIE OF THE MONTH
NOT A VICTORY, BUT FAILURE!
THE TURTH IS OUT!
What was said to be our greatest victory in World War Two turned out to be our greatest failure. The Dieppe Raid also known as
Operation Jubilee preformed on August 19,1942, has come to be an unsuccessful mission.
The Dieppe Raid was a mission
conducted to show Joseph Stalin, the
leader of the Soviet Union, that we, the
Allies, were committed to ending the
Second Great War. On August 19, 1942,
our second Canadian division was chosen
as the main attack force in Operation
Jubilee. Four pre-drawn attacks were
planned followed by the main attack on
the French Port of Dieppe. The Canadian
and British forces wanted free Dieppe
from German control. The successful
invasion of Dieppe would have disrupted
German shipping and would also us use
to gather more intelligence over Nazi
Germany’s control. Operation Jubilee was The concrete barriers, wire fencing, and other obstacles on the beach

Canada and Great Britain attacking the
shore of Dieppe from sea. This attack
would have also provided our soldiers
experience for a future full-scale invasion
of Europe.
Our surprise attack as Operation Jubilee
was busted. As our forces reached the
shores of Dieppe, our lack of cover made
our soldier easy targets for the German
machine guns. Moreover, the pebbled
beach of France Dieppe made our tanks
ineffective, as they could not get enough
traction to move on the steep. With a
strong defense the soldiers of Nazi
Germany were able to see our forces
landing on the shores of Dieppe from its
clifftops and were able to attack us with
full organization. The poor communication
from land to sea and sea to land made it
difficult for out soldiers to follow orders
given from the sea and inform the sea of
our situation on land.
The failure of Operation Jubilee led to
more than 900 of our Canadian soldiers
died on the battlefield. More than 600 of
our soldiers wounded and around 2000 of
our soldiers have become prisoners of war
by the hands of German soldiers.

the citizens by saying: “The Failure of the

hands of Germans. We will keep fighting to

As our Prime Minster and Defense Minister are assuring the public that Operation Jubilee will not be forgotten, many citizens are starting to worry the
return of the household men. The failure of Dieppe Raid has caused chaos within the country and is reminding many of the devasting World War One.
This attack could have given Canada a
great victory and Nazi Germany a life
remembering loss. But Operation Jubilee
turn out to be a failure for Canada.
