Write a few paragraphs of analysis of what the argument is in this Ted Talk or
video presentation. What logical appeals (ethos, pathos, logos) does the speaker
use the most? Define what the appeals mean and show how they are used. Then,
What evidence can you supply to support your analysis of these appeals? What is
the purpose of this presentation? Did the speaker change your mind on whatever
Is the issue being discussed? If so, why, and if not, why not? Overall, what is your
estimation of this speaker’s presentation and why?
It starts with some pathos with some personal feelings to warm the tone, then some logos
to start the facts. Talking about the stats of the food production and also talking about the trade
deficit being too weak to bring food to africa as in america it can be domestically made. Because
it is supplied first to the American companies that need it for production of goods it will not go
to the hungry people who need it the most at a price they can afford. He then goes to the more
logos and says that we are not even in our global production and explains that we lack the
necessary diet production to be considered healthy.
He then reasoned with agroecology, as a solution to this, adapting the means of
production to where they are needed, farming with nature. Ethos can be seen where he shows the
evidence of the mushrooms producing soil from decomposing leaves, logos with the whole idea
of waste being a human concept. More logos are seen in the evidence with the more diverse and
natural the crops being with other life forms the more it is produced in this case it is the rice with
ducks, fish, moss all working as one. In a second confirming the previous statement in a different
light saying that the compost and the leftover biomass of the farms made with little water in the
Peruvian drylands made a small farm produce much out of the little amount of water it had. Ends
it off with admitting that none of it was possible without humility and cooperation, some pathos
of striking that cord of together we are strong. Seen in the example of Brazil, he shows with the
evidence and the government of Brazil having a whole sector of agriculture being used for
making sure there are no people going hungry by not increasing yields but fixing the issues that
come from farming that people needed to fix to get what they sow.
He ends it with logic but also adds there the reasoning and the pathos of the fact that
science has discoveries and there is more to know from the farming methods that we have to
improve rather than being pure logos. He admitted that we must be humane and look past our
own areas and think how to ask the people around us to help us fix the problem together and
grow from that. And without emotional ideas of determination and unity this will be more cold
that hopeful than how it came out.
