The graphs indicate the source of complaints about the Bank of
America and the amount of time it takes to have the complaints
resolved.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main
features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
The two graphs provide different information related to complaints within
the Bank of America. The pie chart shows where the complaints came
from, while the bar graph illustrates the average time taken between
investigation and action taken.
In general, by far the highest number of complaints against the Bank of
America came from the public. The bar graph indicates that the average
time period between investigation and action was around 5 months.
63% of all complaints against the bank were lodged by the public. Of the
remaining 37% of complaints, the figures can be grouped into
percentages between 10% and 8%, with complaints coming from out-ofstate agencies, government agencies, and insurance companies. Media
and bank employees made up an equal figure; 3% in the chart.
The bar graph shows that the year 2001 had the longest waiting time at
6 months. Although there was a slight drop from 6 months in 2001 to 5
months in 2002, all previous and following years display an average
waiting period of 5 months.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from

Write at least 250 words.
Overpopulation is the world's most serious environmental problem.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
vocabulary:
over-population / an increased population / an ongoing growth in population / an overabundant population / a rise in population
depletion of natural resources / exhaustion of natural resources
natural resources / raw materials
non-renewable / limited
land water and air pollution / land water and air contamination
climate change / global warming
environmental deterioration / environmental degradation
an ongoing growth in population → over-consumption → depletion
an over-abundant population → production of more waste → pollution & global warming →
environmental deterioration
• The current population of Earth is almost 8 billion and it is increasing.
• Over-population occurs when our planet cannot generate enough raw
materials to support the demands of the people.
• Over-population is a serious problem because it leads to the depletion of
natural resources and causes environmental deterioration.
• First, an ongoing growth in population leads to over-consumption, and
the ultimate exhaustion of natural resources.
• More people means more demand for land, food, water, air, fossil fuels and
minerals.
• For example, we need to cut more trees to build houses. We need to cut
more forests for farming. Factories use up more gas. We use up more fuel.
• There will come a time when our demand for resources will exceed nature’s
ability to supply because a lot of our natural resources are limited and not
renewable.
• We are already seeing countries fighting wars over water, land and oil.
Second, an increased population means producing more waste which
causes pollution which is the reason of environmental degradation.
• An over-abundant population means production of more waste resulting in
more air, water and land pollution, more deforestation and more toxic
materials.
• For example, nowadays people own more than one car in a household and
when the children grow up, they will need their own car. So, if there are four
members in a family, they will produce four times more pollution.
• Pollution harms all living things and causes global warming.
• In conclusion, overpopulation is an urgent environmental problem that needs
to be dealt with.
• We must find ways to overcome this problem before it is too late.
