I believe I possess the people skills that it takes to perform their duties. I think I work
well in a team environment and would fit in a job like this. I would need to develop
accountability to get my work done. I will often procrastinate my work, and this is something
that I will need to sort out before going into the work force. I can see myself working at a place
like ODOT. ODOT is mostly civil engineering when I want to go into mechanical. I can see
myself working at a place like ODOT where I get to work with a team on projects. I don’t think I
would mind being in an office if I am a part of a team and get to interact with my coworkers. In
my two weeks I have learned a lot about bridge and road construction. They have helped me to
realize how complicated even the smallest things can be. They have also shown me that every
project brings up a unique problem to be solved and requires out of the box thinking. One of the
high points was seeing the test lab and how they test concrete and asphalt from manufacturers.
They showed me the processes they use to keep us safe and make sure they get their money’s
worth. We got to test a concrete cylinder which we put thousands of pounds of force on until it
broke. One low point was on one of the first days when we had to sit through a boring two hour
meeting. Although I didn’t enjoy it, it is part of the job and something my sponsor is required to
do.
