ABSTRACT
The aim of this experiment was to learn how to gauge and
handle uncertainty, or their boundaries, in measurements
of physical quantities. Then, using a meter rod and a
stopwatch, we engaged in two different activities for the
purposes of error analysis.
In the first activity, we employed a meter rule to ascertain
the perimeter and the area of a table, while in the second
we measured the value of the acceleration due to gravity
(g) using a simple pendulum. During both activities, we
investigated how particular techniques might help in the
minimization of uncertainty in measurement.
Aside from the above, we also learned the use of
variance, standard deviation, absolute and relative
uncertainty by taking a series of measurements and
analyzing them. To conclude, we studied the ways in
which the uncertainty in measured values propagate and
the subsequently calculated the error in them.
