TOPIC 4: HEAT RESISTANT AND CREEP RESISTANT STEELS
(Designed by dr inż. Gabriel Strugała)
Laboratory aim: Obtaining basic knowledge about heat resistant and creep resistant alloys.
1. Preparation for laboratory:
1.1. Problems: Based on lectures and materials sciences basics on chemical corrosion
resistant steels (ferritic, martensitic, austenitic) and non-ferrous alloys with same
characteristics (nickel and cobalt alloys)
1.2. Laboratory report according to example.
2. Laboratory equipment
Optical microscopes
3. Course of laboratory:
3.1. Become acquainted with definition of heat resistance and creep resistance.
3.2. Microscopic examination of ferritic steel - heat resistant and description of its
application
3.3. Microscopic examination of martensitic steel - heat resistant and description of its
application
3.4. Non-ferrous alloys - cobalt alloys - microscopic examination and description of its
application
3.5. Comparison and evaluation (base on table data) of oxidation resistance of martensitic
steel and cobalt alloy
3.6. Evaluation of oxidation resistance of Hastelloy X material
4. Rules for results report (laboratory report).
Every student prepares the report form durng laboratory, acc. to point 3.
