September 2024 LEA ESTAS INSTRUCCIONES CON ATENCION ANTES DE EMPEZAR El examen sera contestado en inglés de manera precisa y ateniéndose siempre al contenido de la pregunta. Para aprobar el examen es necesario contestar correctamente todas las partes de éste (“Part A” y “Part B”), siguiendo las directrices que se indican en ambas. La valoracion de cada pregunta sera la siguiente: Comentario de texto: 4 puntos. Preguntas tipo ensayo: 3 puntos por pregunta. No se permitira el uso del diccionario o de cualquier otro tipo de material complementario. PART A: TEXT COMMENTARY Comment on the following text, taking into consideration the most significant formal and thematic aspects, and the interrelationship between them both: He said, “I think I know your mother. You have a true look of your mother”. “No one else says that. I think I look like my father. My father is strong and kind and takes me riding like the wind’. “T think you have a look of your father too”, he said then, and put his arms around her waist, very matter-of-fact and brief, so as not to frighten her, and lifted her down onto his side. They sat there on a hummock and talked, in a cloud of butterflies, as he remembered it with absolute clarity, and she remembered it more and more vaguely, as the century ran on. Beetles ran about their feet, jet and emerald. She told him about her pleasant life, here amusements, her ambitions. He said, “You seem extremely happy”, and she said, “Oh yes, Iam, Iam”. And then he sat quietly for a moment or two, and she asked him if he could make daisy chains. “T will make you a crown’, he said. “A crown for a May Queen. PART B: Choose TWO out of the three following topics and write coherent essays on them. Substantiate your answers with relevant examples taken from the literary works referred to: 1- Comment on the representation of otherness in ‘British’ postmodern poetry. Exemplify your arguments with at least three poems studied this year 2- Discuss the role of Western stereotypes in “The Prophet’s Hair” and “My Son the Fanatic”. 3- Examine the representation of alienation in The Dumb Waiter and Time ’s Arrow.
