CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
This chapter consists of the overview of the study, its difficulty, objective, scope and
limitation and the significance of the study. This chapter also aims to point out the main
result of the research.
Introduction
For a long time now, people have been really interested in finding out how much parents
being involved affects how well their kids do in school. Loads of studies over the years have
shown that when parents are involved, kids tend to do much better in school. We can see this in
better marks, higher scores on tests like the SATs or state exams, and just an all-round better
performance in their studies.
Research consistently shows that parents' involvement greatly affects their children's academic
success. Studies over the years (Coleman, 1966; Henderson & Berla, 1994) prove that involved
parents help kids achieve better grades (Epstein, 2001), attend school regularly (Jeynes, 2005),
and stay motivated (Henderson & Berla, 1994). This connection shows the need to explore how
parental involvement impacts academic success, considering factors like family income, culture,
and parents' education. Understanding these dynamics can inform strategies for schools,
educators, and policymakers to foster productive partnerships, ultimately enhancing student
outcomes and bridging achievement gaps.

Researchers have found different ways that parents can get involved. At home, they can help

create a good place for kids to study, give a hand with homework, do fun educational things
together, and make their kids love learning. When it comes to school, parents can go to things
like parent-teacher meetings, volunteer in the classroom or at school events, and even have a
say in how the school is run. And in the community, parents can use local resources like libraries
or after-school programs to support their kids' learning.
Also, some studies have looked at things that help explain why parental involvement makes
such a difference. For example, when parents are involved, it can make kids feel more confident
about their ability to do well in school, and this confidence can then lead to better academic
results. All this research is really important because it shows teachers, people who make the
rules for schools, and parents themselves just how crucial it is for parents to be actively involved
in their kids' education. It helps everyone understand that when parents play an active part, it
can really help their children do better in school and have a brighter future.
Statement of the Problem
The problem statement focuses on understanding how parental involvement affects student
academic achievement. Research consistently shows that active parental engagement correlates
with improved academic outcomes, such as higher grades and better school attendance. Studies
indicate that parents who support their children's education foster positive self-perceptions and
strengthen student-teacher relationships, leading to enhanced performance on standardized tests
and classroom assessments.
