Dear Applicant:
Alberta Education, in partnership with key stakeholders, plays an important role in ensuring
there is high quality instruction in Alberta classrooms. The quality of teachers administering
these lessons must be consistently high as teachers are entrusted with the care and custody of
children, often with minimal supervision, and help to prepare the next generation of Albertans
for participation in society and the work force. In keeping with this view, the Certification of
Teachers and Teacher Leaders Regulation under sections 7 and 20, allows the Registrar to
collect information about any matter relating to individuals’ credentials, including official letters
of reference and criminal record checks.
In this regard, Alberta Education requires a letter attesting to your standing as a teacher sent
directly to this Office by the Principal/Director of the school(s) where you taught.
The letter must be on official school letterhead, be dated and signed by the appropriate authority
and contain the following details regarding your employment as a teacher:


dates of your employment including the total number of days taught
grades and subjects taught
If you have any questions concerning the above, please feel free to contact the Teacher
Certification Branch at teacher.certification@gov.ab.ca.
Sincerely,
Registrar
