Women in the Red Jacket: A Skiing Adventure

Women in the red jacket
“Kyle! Stop running here and there.”
“But ma...”
“No buts, come here now.”
Handling a child alone is probably one of the most physically and mentally demanding thing to do.
Make sure the child is always safe and doesn’t accidentally fall on their head. Make sure everything
that is required is with you 24/7, so that when they ask for their hotwheels car or water in their
favourite Sippy cup, they don’t start crying when they find out you don’t have them with you.
Sometimes my son, Kyle, makes me contemplate my life decisions. Especially today, because the day
before I had the grand idea of going skiing with my son to have a little mother and son day out.
Terrible idea. For the past hour I have only been hearing squeaky, high-pitched voice, because it’s
too hot if he wears his jacket but too cold if he removes them, and constantly hear” Ma” every 5
seconds.
After what felt like an eternity, we finally got to the front of the waiting line and got on one of the
cable cars. I dragged Kyle along and finally sat down and sighed of relief because I could finally relax
and see some of the beautiful views displayed out of the glass. Suddenly, I hear some sound effect
“shing…shing”, I look over my shoulder confused to see kyle playing with a laser light from my three
in pen. I didn’t know how he got a hold of it but this view was breathtaking so I couldn’t care less. I
looked outside mesmerised at the long, frozen landscape covered with thick layer of snow. We were
far up from the ground, so we were watching from a bird’s eye view. I glanced to the side to see the
sun casting a warm, glow on the snowy landscape, but as I shifted my gaze slowly back to the ground
I saw a confident skier, standing out with her bright red puffer jacket. Slowly make her way down the
mountain at her own pace, but only that an enormous bear had been chasing after her.
She didn’t seem to realise that and had been skiing happily. My heart rate shot up, sweat beads
dripping from the side of my face, even in this cold weather. I stood there frustrated, not knowing
how what to do, when suddenly, I hear,” shing…shing…”
Without hesitation I quickly grabbed the laser pen from Kyle and started darting it towards the
women, hoping that light would travel far. Luckily it did but was extremely faint and I was worried if
she wasn’t going to notice. But fortunately, she did and looked around only to find the unknown
predator. She started speeding up, but so did the bear. My anxiety grew more and more.
“Ma…Ma.”
I turned around as he asked for the pen back. I gave it back to him and quickly rotated but the bear
was gone. I didn’t know where it went but it did. A sigh of relief escaped my lips and the woman in
red continued her path down as fast as she could.
