Evidence from fossils suggests that they were poor swimmers. Color areas where Lystrosaurus fossils have been found orange. Mesosaurus was a reptile that lived in lakes, bays, and estuaries around 240 million years ago. It was about a half of a meter long and could swim and walk on land.
