- Social sciences help us understand ourselves and
other people
Example: communication
- It helps us to be knowledgeable about the individual
- We become conscious of using politically correct
terms e.g. using the phrase “visually challenged”
instead of blind, “physically challenged” instead of
“disabled”.
Attitude and Value Change
- Exposed to great amount of information bring
about change in attitudes and values whether
positive or negative
- Example: during Typhoon Yolanda
- Social scientists and social workers forefront in this
- Earthquake drill, climate change, environmental
problem
Behavioral Change
- Social sciences and applied social sciences bring
about behavioral change in people.
- Example subjects in humanities, social sciences and
the arts make physicians more humane, caring and
nurturing their patients.
- Media workers are fiscalizers, government officials
are more discerning and prudent in speech and
action
