Comma Usage Lesson Plan: Creative Writing & Drawing

advertisement
Lo: I can use commas in a list while practicing my writing and creative thinking skills.
1. PowerPoint
2. Worksheet- There are three different levels (LA, MA, HA)
3. Writing/drawing activity
1. Get students to imagine they are going on a crazy picnic. They will brainstorm and
come up with at least 4-6 unusual or funny things they would bring with them to this
picnic. Encourage creativity—items like “a purple dinosaur,” “flying pancakes,” or “a
singing robot” would work.
2. Students write sentences describing what they are bringing to the picnic, making sure
to use commas in a list correctly. Example:
a. “I’m bringing a pink unicorn, a huge sandwich, and a dancing apple to my
picnic.”
3. After writing their list, students will draw their picnic scene, illustrating the items they
wrote in their sentence. The more creative, the better!
Extension
For higher-level students, you could add a challenge by asking them to write a short story
about their picnic using their list and ensuring proper comma placement throughout.
