ABSTRACT TITLE: Padaba Taka: Isang Awiting Bikolano Bilang Lunsarang Gamit sa Pagtuturo Tungo sa Pagkatuto ng Wikang Bikol RESEARCHER: Joshua V. Braga, LPT COURSE: Master of Arts in Education Major in Teaching Filipino Language: Camarines Norte State College – Main Campus YEAR: 2023 ADVISER: Edwin R. Ichiano, Ph.D Teaching and learning a second language remain challenges for both teachers and students. This research delves into the effectiveness of Bicolano songs in teaching the Bicol language to students. According to the study titled "Music as a Medium of Instruction (MMI): A new pedagogical approach to English language teaching for students with and without music training" by Fernández et al., it suggests that using music as a tool enhances speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Gordon's Music Learning Theory also supports this idea, emphasizing a cognitive process called "Audiation," wherein the brain assigns meaning to everything heard, similar to language learning. The researcher employed a quantitative methodology using an experimental design with a teaching tool to measure the effectiveness of Bicolano songs in Bicol language instruction. Pretests and post-tests were conducted to assess the difference in vocabulary levels before and after using Bicolano songs for teaching. The research findings indicate that the majority of students use Tagalog as their language of communication at home, resulting in lower scores in the pre-test related to Bicol vocabulary. After incorporating Bicolano songs into Bicol language instruction, the post-test results reveal an improvement in students' vocabulary and knowledge of the Bicol language.
