Date:
Problem solving in practice
Develop an application for the scenario mentioned below:
Scenario:
Our classroom/house sometimes gets too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. This
makes it hard to learn and wastes energy, which isn't good for the planet. Our goal is to find
a way to make our classroom/house more comfortable and use less energy. What can we do
to make our classroom/house better and help the Earth? Let's figure it out!
List the 5 steps of the problem solving process and write one sentence for each.
1. Empathise / Define - Defining the real problem in the scenario given.
2. Brainstorm / Ideate - Brainstorming ideas to solve the problem.
3. Evaluate - Choosing the best solution to solve the problem by figuring out
the pros and cons.
4.
5.
The algorithm to create the application is given below. Identify the correct
sequence and mention the correct step number in column 1 and also mention
the phase of problem-solving in column 3.
Algorithm: Developing a Comfort and Energy Efficiency App
Step No. Details
App Development:
The phase of
problem solving
1. Make use of app development concepts: User
interface elements (buttons, sliders).
2. Use basic coding blocks: Basic coding concepts to
develop the proposed app.
Ideation and Brainstorming for App Ideas
1. Generate ideas for addressing temperature
control and energy efficiency.
2. Consider user engagement features, such as:
Gamified challenges for energy-saving behaviors.
Alerts for open windows affecting temperature.
Personalized user profiles.
Defining problems and features for an App
1. Clearly define the problems: Classroom/house
temperature discomfort and energy wastage.
2. List key features: Temperature control interface.
Energy-saving tips and reminders. User-friendly
design for easy interaction.
Testing the Apps and Reflect Process
1. Test the prototype with potential users.
2. Gather feedback on user experience and identify
any bugs or issues.
3. Reflect on the testing results and make necessary
adjustments.
Prototyping the Apps
1. Use Thunkable to create a prototype of the
application.
2. Incorporate basic coding concepts: Implement
sliders for temperature adjustment. Include
conditional statements for energy-saving tips.
Identify the problems in App Development
1. Recognize the challenges in creating an app to
address classroom/house temperature and
energy issues.
2. Identify potential obstacles such as coding
complexity, user interface concerns, and data
accuracy.
