SAFETY & SECURITY IN THE PASSENGER TERMINALS OF THE PORT OF GENOA.
The rules and behaviour to follow in the areas given in concession to the Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. company.
ACCESS TO THE AREAS
Access to the areas given in concession to Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. is allowed exclusively:
to embarkation ticket holders for cruise ships or ferries
to people authorised by Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. (permanent or temporary pass) and those holding an access permit from
the Genoa Port Authority.
Anyone accessing the areas shall undergo the checks of the personnel in charge. Should (s)he be required to do so, (s)he
must show a valid identity document (Leg. decree 154 of 15/09/2009), as well as his/her ticket or identification card.
Access to and/or exit from the Terminal is guaranteed, every day of the year, through various dedicated Operative Gates
(V.O.):
V.O. no. 1 - Ponte Caracciolo entrance/exit - extra EU area. Security active from 6:00 to 24:00 and during the night if
necessary;
V.O. no. 3 - Ponte Caracciolo exit - extra EU area. Guarded by Customs personnel during disembarkation operations;
V.O. no. 4 - Ponte Assereto - entry reserved for goods and service/emergency vehicles. Security active from 6:00 to
24:00 and during the night in case of operative necessity;
V.O. nos. 5, 6, 7 - entrances for the check-in tunnels;
V.O. no. 8 - Ponte Colombo and Ponte Assereto exit. Security active 24 hours a day;
V.O. no. 9 - Ponte Colombo and Ponte Doria ponente (West) entrance. Reserved for goods and service/emergency
vehicles. Security active from 6:00 to 24:00 and during the night in case of operative necessity;
V.O. no. 10 - Ponte Colombo and Ponte Doria ponente (West) exit - Security active from 6:00 to 24:00 and during the
night only in case of operative necessity;
V.O. no. 14 - Ponte Doria west head entrance - open only in case of need guarded by security;
V.O. no. 14 p - pedestrian entrance/exit of the Andrea Doria upper square. Open only in case of operative necessity
guarded by security;
V.O. no. 16/17 - entrance/exit for Ponte Doria levante (East). Open only in case of operative necessity guarded by
security;
V.O. no. 18 - Ponte Doria east head entrance. Open only in case of operative necessity guarded by security;
V.O. no. 19 - entrance also for pedestrians to Ponte dei Mille no.1. Open and guarded by security only in case of ship
operativeness at Ponte dei Mille;
V.O. no. 21 - Ponte dei Mille exit. Open and guarded by security only in case of ship operativeness at Ponte dei Mille.
Besides the aforesaid gates, there are three pedestrian walkways connecting the promenade of the Ferry Terminal and,
respectively, Ponte Colombo, Ponte Assereto and Calata Chiappella. The three walkways are linked with the quayside by
stairs and lifts.
The walkways are open and guarded by security with variable timetables from 6.00 to 24.00.
In all cases, both for the gates and the walkways, the timetables may be extended according to ship operativeness.
ACCESS BY AUTHORISED PERSONNEL
The Security Staff, that guards the operative gates, may allow access to the Terminal to authorised personnel who show,
together with a valid identity document, also entry permits recognised by Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. In particular access will
also be allowed to:
crew members bearing a ship’s badge;
employees of the ship owning company or ship’s agents bearing a badge;
employees of Stazioni Marittime S.p.A.;
personnel of the Harbour Master’s Office, State Police, Revenue Corps, Customs, Carabinieri, Army and all the Forces of
Law and Order;
employees of the Port Authority, Maritime Health, ASL, UOPSAL;
personnel of the Fire-fighters;
suppliers who have authorisation to access, even via e-mail, sent by Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. to Security;
unions, authorised in advance, even via mail;
in general those who send a motivated request to enter through Shipping Companies of Ship’s Agents.
ACCESS FOR TAXIS
Taxis may access the sterile areas in the following cases:
with crew members on board bearing the suitable documents issued by the ship
with no people on board, to collect passengers disembarking from ferries
with people authorised by Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. on board
Taxis cannot access the operative areas destined to cruise traffic. There are stopping areas near the Terminal for the
alighting of cruise goers.
Taxis cannot access with passengers on board destined for embarkation on ferries.
Passengers embarking on ferries will be accompanied to the ticket office of the Ferry Terminal.
VIDEO SURVEILLANCE
The areas given in concession to Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. are controlled by a system of video surveillance with closed
circuit TV cameras, always active. The plant was created and functions in accordance with the regulations on privacy and
safeguarding of individual freedom (Leg. Decree 196/2003).
SECURITY REGULATIONS
Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. is bound to respect and have others respect:
the SOLAS regulations - Chapter XI-2
parts A and B of the International Code for the Security of Ships and Port Facilities (ISPS)
EC regulation no. 725/2004
the directives contained in the National Programme of Maritime Security against any possible intentional illicit actions,
edition 26 April 2007
the dispositions contained in the Leg. Decree of 6 November 2007, no. 203
Leg. Decree 154 of 15/09/2009 – Allocation of subsidiary security services.
Furthermore, Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. observes the contents of the Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP) approved by the
Genoa Harbour Master’s Office.
HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. has adopted an occupational health and safety management system in compliance with the
requisites of the international standard BS OHSAS 18001 which has been certified by RINA S.p.A.
The company choice of intentionally adopting this system was born from the desire to create a healthy and safe work
environment and to best manage the aspects linked with the health and safety of workers and all those who frequent the
operative areas of the company, among whom passengers, suppliers and visitors, through the involvement of all the
company’s components.
This management model allows Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. to:
know and manage the criticalities on the subject of Health and Safety linked with its activity through the adoption of
specific procedures and management instructions to check;
identify and correctly apply the cogent legal provisions, reducing the risk of sanctions from the bodies of control;
adopt its own Health and Safety policy and define the objectives and the coherent responsibilities for improvement of its
own performance;
inform, involve and promote dialogue with all the subjects who are involved (employees and external stakeholders),
thanks also to the greater transparency that the system guarantees;
indentify and satisfy the staff training needs, thereby increasing their competence and motivation;
periodically re-examine the company’s performance according to the principle of continuous improvement.
VEHICLE TRANSIT AND PARKING
Vehicles in transit and parked in the areas given in concession to Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. must respect the horizontal and
vertical signs. In particular:
circulation on the edge of the quays and near the moorings is forbidden;
transit below suspended weights and near operating machines is forbidden;
waiting or parking outside the reserved areas is forbidden;
circulation in pedestrian areas is forbidden.
Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. can have vehicles blocking viability or access to emergency exits of buildings or safety
devices moved at the expense of the owner.
Maximum speed for circulation:
- 30 km/hour for cars
- 20 km/hour for other means
PEDESTRIAN TRANSIT
Pedestrians may circulate in the areas managed by Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. exclusively in the limits of the paths set out. In
particular:
 it is forbidden to transit on the edge of the quays and near the moorings;
it is forbidden to pass below suspended weights and near operating machines;
 it is forbidden to cross the roads outside the pedestrian crossings;
You cannot enter and/or exit from the areas through the operative gates for vehicles.
SERVICES FOR PASSENGERS WITH REDUCED MOBILITY (P.R.M.)
Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. dedicates particular attention to users with reduced mobility who can make use of ramps,
dedicated accesses and connecting lifts. All the lift cabins are connected by telephone to the surveillance.
The five passenger Terminals and the external areas are fitted with W.C. for P.R.M.
The security control gates are all equipped for both passengers in wheel chairs and those using pacemakers.
In the Ferry Terminal car park there are reserved areas present.

do not scatter rubbish or other materials
follow the anti-smoking provisions envisaged in the areas open to the public.
MAIN RISKS THAT PEOPLE ACCESSING THE AREAS IN CONCESSION TO STAZIONI MARITTIME S.P.A.
FACE
falling from raised places
falling into the sea
falling on the ground
collision with moving means
collision with fixed structures/obstacles
inhalation of exhaust gas from queuing cars at the check-in for ferries
collision with mooring ropes or ropes in tension during the manoeuvre and/or the ship’s berthing or following their
breaking.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
leave buildings in an orderly way and follow the marked paths to the muster stations
avoid panic and follow the indications of those in charge
do not take luggage or other personal belongings which might block the escape route with you
do not delay in taking luggage or other personal belongings
always give precedence to the fire-fighting and rescue means
Hindering the operations of the rescue teams is forbidden.
EMERGENCY DEVICES AND FIRST AID
The buildings and the terminals given in concession to Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. are fitted with fire-detection plant,
extinguishers, hydrants and First Aid boxes.
In each building floor plans have been displayed with an indication of the escape routes and the position of the firefighting stations.
The escape routes, the exits and the safety stairs are all compliant with the regulations in force and all highlighted on the
floor plans that have been displayed.
All the buildings are fitted with safety lighting plant.
Part of the displays showing the escape routes is of the back-lit type.
There is an extraction system in the tunnel dedicated to check-in by car, for access to the ferries.
