Grit Instructions: Grit is defined as “the perseverance and passion for long term goals.” Some of us set goals for ourselves that we never get close to achieving because we lack grit, discipline, and mental toughness. This worksheet is going to help you create a long-term goal and provide you with the necessary steps to help you achieve that goal by improving your grit. Step #1: Pursue what interests you Go out into the world, try new things, and find something that’s perfect for you and that you are excited about. In the box above, brainstorm some things you’d like to try. L would love to go to at least 10 foreign countries because it could really show me different culture and how they are different form America’s. Also I want to go to UGA because UGA has so much opportunities and other things that I would really enjoy being in this university and I would want to get my master and major there to. Step #2: Practice, practice, practice! Hard work develops skill and always works on your weaknesses. Celebrate your successes and acknowledge your failures so you can learn from them. In the box above, share a time where you had overall success with something but also faced some difficulties and failures along the way. What happened? What did you learn? Write your answer here. Georgia’s Best Step #3: Find purpose How is this important to other people, not just interesting to you? Have a sense of greater meaning; your work should be personally interesting to you as well as connected to the wellbeing of others. In the box above, brainstorm ways that you could help others. Write your answer here. Step #4: Have hope You must believe things will improve because you’re going to improve them. Research shows that people without hope avoid bigger challenges, quit earlier, and act helpless. Having hope includes the idea of using “optimistic self talk.” In the box below, write down some examples of statements could you tell yourself to use as “optimistic self talk” to help improve your grit.
