Tourism has become an extremely common activity amongst people worldwide. No one can deny it generates some good things, but also some less good ones. The first text is focused on the benefits tourism has, while the second text signals the detrimental effects it causes. So, what is the main factor that makes tourism a great activity? According to the first text, the economic benefits can not be understated. Each country that would have been in a bad condition can prosper on the base of touristic activities. It also mentions that tourism can diminish our old beliefs about other cultures. This is an interesting point of view, as I can see how tourism makes the economy of a country blow up. Also let’s not forget there are countries with extraordinary landscapes and monuments that would have otherwise been unknown. However, the second text underlines the bad effects of tourism. Damaging small enterprises is, as the text suggests, ultimately correlated with tourism. Also, it is said that the activity generates more air pollution due to transportation necessities. This view is a little bit darker, but has its roots of truth. Tourism indeed promotes traveling by airplane and thus more carbon dioxide is being released, and all the bigger companies are interested in a more visited area, therefore trying to get in the way of small businesses. But I wouldn’t forget that even the little shops can have a greater customer base made out of tourists. Obviously, the two texts offer diametrically opposed points of view. I think good parts can overcome the bad, also considering there has been great progress in environment friendly engines. Maybe in the next years, tourism will have a different sound to its name regarding pollution problems
