HADES
HADES, GREEK GOD
In Greek mythology, Hades is one of the major Olympian gods, the son of the Titans Cronus and Rhea.
After the Olympian gods overthrew the Titans in the Titanomachy, Hades and his brothers, Zeus and
Poseidon, divided the universe amongst themselves, with Hades receiving the underworld as his domain.
Hades is known as the god of the underworld, where he rules over the dead and the souls of the deceased.
He is often depicted as a somber and austere god, but not necessarily malevolent. His rule in the
underworld involves maintaining order among the souls of the departed and punishing those who
committed acts of wickedness in life.
Although Hades is less prominently worshipped than other Olympian gods, such as Zeus or Athena, his
role as the ruler of the underworld is fundamental in Greek mythology and has inspired numerous works
of art, literature, and popular culture throughout the centuries.
