Team 4: Impacts of zoonotic diseases. XXX, YYY, ZZZZ MGMT 340-50 Managing Quality Spring 2024 Professor XXXXX Metropolitan State University Topic: Impacts of zoonotic diseases Rationale Team 4 chose the topic titled Impacts of zoonotic diseases, because today all over the world we are dealing with COVID-19 which is zoonotic disease, that has killed over 3.69 million people to date and infected 172 million people worldwide (WHO Coronavirus (COVID-19) Dashboard, n.d.). Since, this zoonotic disease has had enormous consequences on our everyday lives and for generation to come, learning about this disease and other zoonotic diseases can help us take proactive mitigation steps for future zoonotic diseases. In this paper we intend to point out the multiple impacts that recent zoonotic diseases have had on our economy, safety, health, etc. Zoonotic disease is one that can be transmitted from animals to people or, more specifically, a disease that normally exists in animals but that can infect humans (Acute Communicable Disease Control) (n.d.). There are many of zoonotic diseases for example: Anthrax, Brucellosis, Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome, Rabies, COVID-19, Ebola, etc. We have all personally in one form or other felt the effect of COIVD-19 which is a zoonotic disease. There have been significant personal, financial, and economic losses faced by millions due to COVID-19. Similarly, losses have been felt by many due to another zoonotic disease – Ebola. It is important for us all to be aware about this kind of disease so that we are prepared and can take upfront measures in order to minimize or even eliminate their consequences. Research Plan Team 4 will source information about this topic from a wide variety of outlets primarily found throughout the internet and will classify these sources in three categories. The primary source category will exclusively include information from sources with original data about the topic. This would include government sources, research institutes, and other scholarly institutions that have studied the effects of zoonotic diseases. Secondary categories will include sources such as news media, or other information outlets that provide factual data that is cited or traceable to some extent or verifiable by third party research. The tertiary category will include sources that have information of some benefit to the final project, but the information is limited or not easily verifiable. Some preliminary primary sources include the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Johns Hopkins University, National Institute of Health. Additional secondary sources include media outlets like CNN, BBC, NBC, New York Times, and others. Project Plan Our team’s project plan will align with the Class Schedule for all due dates and deliverables. These dates are: 06/06/2021 Team Project Topic Selection, XX/XX/2021 Topic Outline, XX/XX/2021 Topic Draft, XX/XX/2021 Final Project PowerPoint Presentations, and XX/XX/2021 Final Team Project Paper.
