Initial Progress Report Tristan Besser, Derron Ward, Jesse Cable Initial Findings Since the main goal of our project is to produce a penetration test, we have taken this module to research/explore possible entry points into a system. We found the effective “Nmap” tool that helps us in evaluating open ports within a system that could potentially receive attacks. After initial testing between our local machines, we came up with little luck. This was one of our downfalls. We set up test ports to open so we could see if Nmap could find them. We assume the reason behind this is because of firewall configurations. We tried this between Linux and Windows based systems. This upcoming module, we plan on running more test scenarios and finding more information on how to obtain open ports as well as how to access them from the outside. Once we figure out how to do that, we can then move on to phase 2 of the project, which is actually penetrating and then phase 3 will finally be to see how well the system responds to the threat.
