E.CYBERBULLYING
E.CYBERBULLYING
Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital
devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets.
Cyberbullying can occur through SMS, Text, and apps, or
online in social media, forums, or gaming where people can
view, participate in, or share content. Cyberbullying includes
sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or mean
content about someone else. It can include sharing personal
or private information about someone else causing
embarrassment or humiliation. Some cyberbullying crosses
the
line
into
unlawful
or
criminal
behavior.
The most common places where cyberbullying occurs are:
• Social Media, such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and
Tik Tok
• Text messaging and messaging apps on mobile or tablet
devices
• Instant messaging, direct messaging, and online chatting
over the internet
• Online forums, chat rooms, and message boards, such as
Reddit
• Email
• Online gaming communities
CHARACTERISTICS OF CYBERBULYYING
Persistent
– Digital devices offer an ability to immediately and
D
continuously communicate 24 hours a day, so it can be difficult
for children experiencing cyberbullying to find relief.
Permanent – Most information communicated electronically is
permanent and public, if not reported and removed. A negative
online reputation, including for those who bully, can impact
college admissions, employment, and other areas of life.
Hard to Notice – Because teachers and parents may not
overhear or see cyberbullying taking place, it is harder to
recognize.
Prevent Cyberbullying
◦Be Aware of What Your Kids are Doing Online
A child may be involved in cyberbullying in several
ways.Achild can be bullies, bully others or witness
bullying.Parents, teachers, and other adults may not be
aware of all the digital media and apps that a child
uses,The more digital platforms that a child uses, the more
opportunities there are for being exposed to potential
cyberbullying.
Prevent Cyberbullying
◦Warning Signs a Child is Being Cyberbullied or is
Cyberbullying Others:
1.Noticeable increases or decreases in device use,
including texting.
2. A child exhibits emotional responses (laughter,
anger, upset) to what is happening on their device.
3. Social media accounts are shut down or
new ones appear.
4.A child starts to avoid social situations,
even those that were enjoyed in the past.
5.A child becomes withdrawn or depressed,
or loses interest in people and activities.
What to Do When Cyberbullying Happens?
If you notice warning signs that a child may be
involved in cyberbullying, take steps to investigate that
child’s digital behavior. Cyberbullying is a form of
bullying, and adults should take the same approach to
address it: support the child being bullied, address the
bullying behavior of a participant, and show children that
cyberbullying is taken seriously. Because cyberbullying
happens online, responding to it requires different
approaches. If you think that a child is involved in
cyberbullying, there are several things you can do:
• Notice
• Talk
• Report
• Support
Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (Republic Act No.
10175): This act criminalizes offenses such as Cyberlibel and
Unlawful or Prohibited Acts, which can be relevant to
cyberbullying cases.
Anti-Bullying Act of 2013 (Republic Act No. 10627): This
law mandates all elementary and secondary schools to
adopt policies to address bullying, which could extend to
cyberbullying if the act was committed through electronic
means.
Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173): If the
cyberbullying involves unauthorized collection and
dissemination of personal information, this act can apply.
DIGITAL AWARENESS FOR PARENTS
While you may not be able to monitor all of your childs activities, there are
things you can do to prevent cyberbullying and protect your child from
harmful digital behavior:
• Monitor a teen’s social media sites,apps and browsing history,if you have
concerns that cberbullying may be occuring,.
• Review or reset your chi8lds phone locationand privacy settings.
• Review or re-set your child’s phone location and privacy settings.
• Follow or friend your teen on social media sites or have another trusted adult
do so.
• Stay up-to-date on the latest apps, social media platforms, and digital slang
used by children and teens.
• Know your child’s user names and passwords for email and social media.
• Establish rules about appropriate digital behavior, content, and apps.
Digital Monitoring Apps and Software for
Parents
Parents who want to protect their children
from cyberbullying,harmful digital behavior,and
exppsure to adult content can use parental
control and monitoring software to help them set
up systems that are less invasive to their
children.
There are free software options and apps available to
help parents restrict content, block domains, or view
their children’s online activities, including social media,
without looking at their child’s device every day. Most of
the free software options provide some features for free,
but charge for more robust insight.
A parent should consider a child’s age, device use,
and digital behavior when selecting software – what is
suitable to restrict for a ten-year old may not be useful
for a teenager.
Net Nanny - The best parental
control apps can
help protect your
children with

location tracking,
screen time limits,
web filtering, and
more.

and social media,tracks your
kids location,block harmful
content on the web and
apps and monitor their
online activities.

apps for Android and iOS can
provide you with a better
understanding of how your
children spend their time
online
GOOGLE FAMILY LINK
◦Google Family Link is a family
parental controls service by
Google that allows parents to
adjust parameters for their
children's
devices.
The
application allows parents to
restrict content, approve or
disapprove apps, set screen
times, and more.
Tips for Parents:
1.Talk to Your Child about Appropriate Digital
Behavior and Content.
2.Talk to Your Child about Being a Bystander to
Cyberbullying.
3.Do not retaliate or respond negatively.
4.Respond privately to the person who created the
hurtful message.
6.Follow up with the person who was targeted.
Tips for Teachers:
Many of the warning signs that cyberbullying
is occurring happen around a child’s use of their
device. Since children spend a lot of time on their
devices, increases or decreases in use may be less
noticeable. It’s important to pay attention when a
child exhibits sudden changes in digital and
social behavior.
Teachers, school administrators, camp, community,
and faith-based staff are in unique positions to use
their skills and roles to create safe environments
with positive social norms. They are also in
positions where they may notice children’s
behavior changes in group settings, like when a
group or cluster of children focuses on another
child, or other signs that cyberbullying may be
occurring. There are things that you can do in the
classroom or other group settings to address or
prevent cyberbullying.
• If you think a child is being cyberbullied,
speak to them privately to ask about it. They
may also have proof on their digital devices.
• If you believe a child is being cyberbullied,
speak to a parent about it. Serve as a
facilitator between the child, parent, and the
school if necessary.
• To understand children’ digital behavior and
how it relates to cyberbullying, increase your
digital awareness.
• Develop activities that encourage selfreflection, asking children to identify and express
what they think and feel, and to consider the
thoughts and feelings of others. Help children
develop emotional intelligence so that they can
learn self-awareness and self-regulation skills
and learn how to have empathy for others.
• Role model, reinforce, and reward
positive behavior towards others.
• Encourage peer involvement in
prevention strategies.
How to Deal with Haters :
1.Ignore it.
2.Block online haters.
3.Be kind and respectful.
4. Stick with supporters.
5.Remind yourself.
6.Understand criticism can be a sign of
pain.
7.Acknowledge your feelings.
8.Keep being you.

An online learning community is a public or private
destination on the Internet that addresses the learning needs
of its members by facilitating peer-to-peer learning.
Communities are a natural tenet of human life. With the
growth of technology and the breakdown of geographic
barriers through the internet, online communities are the new
hub for innovation and learning. Like “real-life” communities,
online communities have their operating norms, formal and
informal roles, shared interests, and trust, which creates the
foundation for effective interactions. Most important is the
onus on online communities to engage people in a learning
process over time.
I.ONLINE
COMMUNITIES OF
LEARNING
An online learning community is a public
or private destination on the Internet
that addresses the learning needs of its
members by facilitating peer-to-peer
learning.
.
Communities are a natural tenet of human
life. With the growth of technology and the
breakdown of geographic barriers through the
internet, online communities are the new hub
for innovation and learning. Like “real-life”
communities, online communities have their
operating norms, formal and informal roles,
shared interests, and trust, which creates the
foundation for effective interactions. Most
important is the onus on online communities
to engage people in a learning process over
time.
Strategies for People Management in an Online
Learning Community
Clearly define roles within the group, including the
instructors, peer instructors, group leaders and
individual learners. Establish each role’s
responsibilities and interdependencies.
Make smaller groups to create space for
collaborative activities and group projects. A mix of
advanced and new learners will make sure that
group members can support and complement each
other.
Provide a way for learners to create
personal profiles that include photos and
salient information on the topic at hand. These
profiles can serve as an ice-breaker and a
foundation for social learning to flourish.
Include guidelines for online and offline
etiquette. All the participants should agree to
follow the prescribed norms for successful
group and individual learning outcomes.
To counter boredom and monotony, foster a
buddy system by making two or more
learners responsible for joint participation
and contribution. Encourage activities such
as developing case studies or posting in the
discussion area to kindle the spirit of peer
learning.
COMMUNITY LEARNING TOOL
In the end, choosing the right technology to support
online communities is of prime importance and can mean the
success or failure of the community. The collaborative
environment should be easy to use and hassle-free. The goal
of the technology should be to serve the community, and the
community should spend more time learning about a topic
than about how to use the technology. The technology
should be transparent to the instructor and the learner; no
technical knowledge should be required to customize or
manage the environment.
You can employ a number of tools to create
an effective online learning community,
including synchronous tools (audio-, web-,
and video-conferencing; chat; and instant
messaging), asynchronous tools (discussion
boards, links, group announcements, group
emails, and surveys and polls) and content
creation tools (courseware, streaming
media, narrated slideshows and e-books).
With the increasing interest in
knowledge management and evolving
learning technologies, the success of
online communities is evident. Taking
into eeds, you can use technology to
consideration the learners and their
learning ncreate effective learning.
