MGMT/DMGT 0105 – Fundamentals of Management IN-CLASS GROUP PROJECT EXERCISES (A-G) – Managing a Successful Company Deliverable 1 – Comprehensive Summaries of Exercises A-C (10%) You will be required to get into your groups in order to finalise the documentation of the in-class group exercises for Deliverable 1. Please pay attention to the requirements outlined for each exercise and the number of marks that are assigned to each exercise. Exercise A (2%): In Session 5, your assigned group of 5-7 persons will be required to brainstorm possible business initiatives that you will like to establish and operate after completing your programme of study. Bearing in mind the concepts that have been explored in the course thus far, discuss the various business ideas and narrow down your choice to one (1) initiative. Decide if you will: (a) Start an entirely new business. OR (b) Buy an existing business. OR (c) Buy a franchise. Imagine that you were to prepare a business plan to a financial institution or a potential investor(s), outline your Business Description Segment [12 Marks], which must contain the following information: o o o List the Name of Business and Location –2 Mk Description of the Industry with a PESTLE/PESTILN analysis –7 Mk History of the (existing) Company OR Genesis of the (new) Business Idea – 3 Mk Remember: In addition to listing the name and location of the business, this section must include a brief description of the industry, conditions of the economy and who are your competitors. The History of the business OR Genesis of the business idea must describe the company’s history and rationale, for its operation in Trinidad and Tobago. Be sure to identify explicitly the range of products and services that will be provided. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Exercise B (3%): In Session 5, you also will be required to use the concepts in chapters 7 and 8 and other relevant supplementary material, to outline your organisation’s Planning details [18 Marks], which must contain the following information: o o o Define the Company’s Vision and Mission – 2 Mk Outline its Strategies for four (4) Functions of the business (e.g. HR, R&D, Finance, Production, Sales & Marketing, IT) – 8 Mk Prepare a SWOT Analysis for the business – 8 Mk Remember: the mission is born out of the vision therefore the vision must come before the mission. The mission should be concise, compelling and easy to remember. As a team, you would need to collaborate to create a fluid prerecorded video presentation in the form of a PowerPoint presentation with each member’s audiovisual presentation being embedded in the relevant slide(s). The assignment will account for ten percent (10%) of your final course mark. You will be evaluated out of 60 Marks using the following criteria: • • • • • Effective Use of PowerPoint Presentation & Presentation Aids (15 Mk) Creativity seen in PwP/Presentation Aids (10 Mk) Content - material selection, thoroughness, relevance and accuracy of information (15 Mk) Effective Oral Delivery of Content including Communication Skills such as eye contact (13 Mk) Fluency and Professionalism of Presentation (7 Mk) By the start of Session 12, one (1) of your group members is required to upload your group’s PPT to the Assignment tab of Canvas as well as your group’s completed Peer Evaluation Form, inclusive of a detailed breakdown of what each group member contributed to the group process and written document.
