After watching Kara David’s documentary, I was touched by Maricel’s story because of her kindness and willingness to help. As I watch, there was a scene that struck and its was when Maricel decided to adopt a child named Tina. She is a girl who was abandoned by her own mother who has a mental disorder. Despite of Maricel’s state of living in poverty, she did not hesitate to adopt and take care of Tina even though they are not blood related and is a complete stranger to each other. She treated and considered Tina as her own daughter and fulfilled the shortcomings of the child’s parents. Struggles in life did not stop Maricel from helping the need. It did not become a hindrance to her at all. I realized that there are people who has more deeper hardships in life and has way more difficult state of living. But these people did not stop to strive and never once did complain about what life has to offer them. People like Maricel are the one that we should admire and patronize for their resiliency in life. At the end of the documentary, there are lessons that we are bound to learn. It is to help in no matter what way we are able to and whatever we can provide. Just like what Maricel said “kung mabait ka sa kapwa, mabait din sayo ang mundo.”
