LAC Session by Hazel V. Calde
- Topic: Assessment and Reporting of Learners Performance
- Are integral parts of the teaching and learning program and important aspects of the work of
teachers and students.
- Assessment and reporting combine to support students to achieve high standards and to
provide the basis for guiding further learning, as well as informing parents about their child’s
achievement.
- Assessment is all the ways we gather information about progress in a student’s learning.
- tasks should reflect the objectives and criteria and be meaningful and relevant
- include tests, observations, peer discussions, work samples, presentations/ performances,
and projects
- Two types of classroom assessment:
- Formative Test – an ongoing process of providing learners with immediate feedback on how
they are learning
o Types: Quizzes, asking questions, homework, classwork, muddiest point exercises
- Summative Test – usually administered toward the end of the learning period to measure the
extent to which the learner has mastered the learning competency
o Unit test, final project, created teacher test, final essays, portfolios
- Thoughts to ponder:
“Assessment is today’s means of modifying tomorrow’s instruction.”
