The New Yam Festival is
a significant cultural
celebration observed by
various ethnic groups in
Nigeria, particularly
among the Igbo people.
This annual festival marks
the beginning of the yam
harvesting season and is a
time for expressing
gratitude, performing
rituals, and engaging in
communal festivities .

Eyo Festival
Introduction
The Eyo Festival, also
called Adamu Orisha is
a Yoruba festival unique
to Lagos. In modern times, it is
celebrated by the people
of Lagos as a tourist event
and, due to its history, is
traditionally performed on
Lagos Island at Tafa Balewa
Square (TBS).
Eyo Festival
The Eyo festival is held to escort
the soul of departed Lagos King
or Chief and to usher in a new
king. It is also staged in honour
of a dead Lagosian, who must
have contributed to the
development of the city in their
lifetime.

About 5,000 men take part
in the festival, armed with
hand fishnets and big
gourds.

racing, wild duck
hunting, bare-handed
fishing, diving
competitions, swimming,
including award
presentation to the
biggest fish harvester.

Muslim festivals Eid al-Fitr and
