2. Why does Gregory think that his life will be spared?

5. How does Gregory show acts of kindness and friendship
to the soldiers?
6. This story deals with the horrible realities of war and the
difficult situations combatants deal with on a daily basis.
In the story Gregory the prisoner tries to become a friend to
the narrator and the other soldiers; is this the correct
behaviour of a soldier while being held captive? Does
Gregory perform his duty as a soldier? Is he behaving as
a soldier should?
7. Is their a last act of dignity performed by the narrator?
8. Based on the last actions of headquarters, was it necessary
to execute Gregory? If you had been in the same position
as the narrator would you have acted differently?
9. It is obvious the narrator is hurt and sickened by the
execution of Gregory. Have you ever had to make a tough
decision which involved feelings of betrayal and anger
involving someone close to you?
