RATIONAL CHOICE
Rational choice is an approach or a theory that explains
social phenomena as outcomes of individual choices that are
rational in some way. Rational choice theory is used to model
human decision-making, specially in the context of
microeconomics, but also in other fields such as political
science, sociology, and psychology.
INSTITUTIONALISM
Institutionalism is an approach in the social sciences
that emphasizes the role of institutions in shaping
social phenomena.
Institutions are the formal or informal rules, norms,
and practices that guide and constrain human
behaviour. Institutions can be political, economics,
cultural, or social, and they can affect various
aspects
of society, such as governance,
development, cooperation, and conflict.
TYPES OF INSTITUTIONALISM

Historical institutionalism: This type of institutionalism
focuses on how institutions emerge and evolve over time,
and how they affect the path dependence and critical
junctures of historical process.

Rational choice institutionalism: This is a type of
institutionalism that assumes that individuals are rational
actors who pursue their interests and preferences within
the constraints and opportunities of institutions.

Sociological institutionalism: This is a type of
institutionalism
that emphasizes the cultural and
normative aspects of institutions.
FEMINIST THEORY
Feminist theory is a branch of social theory that
aims to understand and challenge the inequality
and oppression of women in various aspects of
society.
Feminist theory explores the cause, consequences,
and solutions of gender discrimination,
objectification, patriarchy, stereotyping, and other
issues that affect women’s lives and experiences.

Liberal feminism: This type of feminism advocates for equal right and
opportunities for women within the existing social and political system.
Radical feminism: This type of feminism challenges the fundamental
structures and ideologies of society that are based on male domination and
female subordination.
Marxist feminism: This types of feminism analyze the relationship between
capitalism and patriarchy as the dual sources of women’s exploitation and
oppression.
