Homework Assignment 1
1. Read the Preface and Chapter 1 in Balanis (text). To show you have completed this portion
of the assignment, give the page number and name of where someone you know is
mentioned.
2. Look at the bibliography on the course website found under the “information” tab. Find five of
the books from this list that are in the UH Library? List five other books on antennas in the
library that are not on the bibliography.
3. WEB Search: Go search the Web to find the following information
(a) Find web-listings for one other US University that is offering an Antenna Theory and
Design type class this semester (or any other semester is fine.) If the course has a web
site, write down the entire internet address. What textbook are they using? If there is a
syllabus on the web, include it.
(b) The most important conference in the antenna area for 2024 is to be held this
year in Florence, Italy. List the full name of the conference, when it is to be held,
where exactly is it, and who is sponsoring the conference?
(c) List the full name of three journals relating to antennas.
4. (a) List five of the publications of David R. Jackson during the calendar year of 2022.
(b) List five of the papers published by anyone during 2022 that referenced the following
paper: "The Resonant Cylindrical Dielectric Cavity Antenna, IEEE Trans. Antennas and
Propagation, Vol. AP-31, pp. 406-412, May 1983.
5. Log onto the IEEE website (www.ieee.org) and try to discover what IEEE Xplore will do.
Summarize its features. If you are a member of IEEE, see what additional privileges you
have. What additional options do you have if you log into Xplore through the UH Library?
