Chapter 1 Paul Sheldon, is experiencing a slow return of his memory. At first, all he feels is pain, and it's so intense that he can't remember anything. But then he recalls being in a cloud where there was no pain, and he thought he just needed to stop breathing to stay in that peaceful state. However, a woman's voice interrupts him and tells him to breathe. Something hits his chest, and he feels foul breath being forced into his mouth. The pain and sounds start to make more sense, and Paul realizes that something bad has happened to him. He remembers that he's Paul Sheldon, a famous writer known for creating the character Misery Chastain. It seems like he's been feeling trapped by that character and decides to write a different kind .of book He finishes writing his novel in a hotel in Colorado. He plans to fly to New York for the publication of his book and to deliver the manuscript of his new novel called "Fast Cars." However, while driving on a mountain road, a big snowstorm surprises him. The road becomes covered in snow, making it difficult for Paul to control the car. He loses control and everything goes dark. When he wakes up, he sees a woman named Annie Wilkes sitting next to his bed. Paul was taken aback, but he quickly reassured her that he just wanted to know where his wallet was out of habit. After that, Paul became more cautious .around Annie Chapter 3 Paul is lying in bed and Annie brings him some medicine for his pain. She tells him that she got his new book, "Misery's Child," and she loves it. Paul asks her for the medicine because his legs are hurting, but Annie gets distracted and starts talking about the characters in the book. Finally, she gives him the glass of water but keeps the tablets in her hand. She mentions that she looked in his bag and saw a typescript for a different book called "Fast .Cars." Chapter 4 whenbrings the guy some soup. She tells him that she read 40 pages of his writing, but she doesn't think it's as good as his other stuff. She finds it hard to understand because it keeps jumping between different times. The guy explains that the character in his writing is confused, so the changes in time show that confusion.and she mentions that character .swears a lot too when the woman gets upset because the guy's character in his writing swears a lot. She argues that people don't talk like that in real life, and she gives examples of how she doesn't use swear words when she goes shopping or to the bank. She gets really angry and throws the soup bowl, making a mess. The guy gets scared, but she eventually calms down and admits that she has a temper. He apologizes and tells her not to read his book if it makes her angry . when the woman gets really angry at the guy for making a mess with the soup. She starts cleaning it up slowly and deliberately, even though the guy is in a lot of pain and needs his medicine. He begs her to give him the medicine, but she insists on washing the wall first because her mother taught her to do things right. The guy is desperate and even threatens .to scream, but she tells him that no one will hear. Chapter 5 Annie, comes into Paul's room and she's really upset. She accuses him of being a "dirty bird" because of something that happened in the book he's been writing. She gets so angry that she throws a jug of water, but luckily it doesn't hit Paul. She's really upset because a character in the book died, and she blames Paul for it. Paul tries to explain that it's just a story, but Annie doesn't believe him. It's a really intense moment and Paul is in a lot of pain . Chapter 6 Paul wakes up after being unconscious for a long time. Annie gives him some water to drink, but only a little at a time. Paul asks for his medicine, but Annie tells him he has a job to do first. She leaves the room and comes back with a barbecue stove and the typescript of his book. Paul gets scared because he knows what Annie wants him to do. He refuses, but Annie insists and even offers him pain medication and food. It's a really intense moment, and Paul .is torn between his fear and his desire to survive Paul wakes up and Annie tells him that if he loses consciousness again, he might not wake up. But he's filled with anger and thoughts of killing her. Chapter 7 When he woke up, he found himself in a wheelchair. She had moved him so gently that he didn't wake up. Sitting in the wheelchair was uncomfortable, but he liked being able to see out of the window. From there, he could see a snowy farm with a barn and mountains in the distance. She fed him soup and said he would get better if they didn't argue. But he knew she was lying. One day, someone would find his car and she would be scared. She would have to go to court and might not be free. She would realize this and want to kill him. He wondered .how long he had left to live. She mentioned she had another present for him Paul and Annie are having a tense conversation. Paul wants to control Annie's anger, but he's also scared. He tries to show her that getting angry won't change anything. Annie thinks it's a trick because she believes Paul doesn't want to write her book. But Paul reassures her and shows her a problem with the paper. He rubs his finger over the words, and they become faint. Annie realizes that rubbing the pages together would be enough to make the words disappear. .Paul asks her to get the paper, and she agrees
