Operations Management and Digital Technologies Channel B (Management & Marketing Track) General information Prof. Ambra Galeazzo LEARNING OBJECTIVES AND COURSE CONTENT The course aims at providing conceptual and operational tools to understand the functioning and the design of manufacturing and service processes (operations management). The course will include the following topics: 1. The model of operations management 2. Operations performance 3. Operations strategy 4. Process design 5. Layout and flow 6. Process technology 7. Job design - Standard Time 8. Product and service innovation HOW WILL YOU BE EVALUATED? FINAL EXAM • The final exam will be a written test. • The written test consists of : Ø 12 multiple choice questions on theoretical arguments (worth 1 point each), Ø 4 multiple choice questions on exercises (worth 2 points each) Ø 4 exercises with open question (worth 3 points each). • The total is 32 points that will be normalized to 30. Total time to complete the test is 45 minutes. TEAMWORK • Two classes of the course will be devoted to discussing two assignments. • Only students attending the classes can participate to the group works forming groups of approx. 5 students. • Groups are required to prepare reports (pdf format) and presentations (ppt format) by replying to questions regarding the cases and to share them with the lecturer before the class in which the case will be discussed. • First presentation: Wednesday, February, 14th • Second presentation: Thursday, February, 29th GRADING STUDENTS WITH TEAMWORK ACTIVITY • Final exam =max 30 points • Teamwork assignments = 1.5 points (1st assignment) + 1.5 points (2nd assignment) = max 3 points* • To achieve a score of '30 with laudem,' a minimum of 2 points from the teamwork assignments is required *free-riding penalty (-1 point). After the second presentation, you will have access to a spreadsheet to evaluate each of the group member participation in the group work.
