your family members. You also encountered some steps concerning decision
making that helps you to solve your own circumstances and shortcomings in
life.
LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Family is the foundation of society which is primarily responsible for
shaping the lives of its members. It is a small unit where socialization begins
to provide guidance in improving one’s personality in order to become more
productive and useful citizens of the country. The values of integrity, love,
and honesty begin in the family where each member has his/her own role to play
in the attainment of a healthy family life.
Have you imagined yourself dating, courting or being courted and
getting married?
This module is designed for you to learn the importance of planning
before getting married in order to have a successful family life in the future.
Lesson 1: Importance of Courtship and Dating
INFATUATION or CRUSH is the state of being completely carried away
by unreasoning passion or love; addictive love. Infatuation usually occurs at
the beginning of relationships when sexual attraction is central. Love can be
described as a feeling of intense affection for other person.
ATTRACTION is admiration for someone that may include the desire
to get to know that person better. Attraction usually takes place in the form
of infatuation or crush. Infatuation is admiration for someone while not
recognizing that person’s flaws. Crushes usually last for only a short time, a
few weeks or maybe a few months. These feelings are completely normal and
are part becoming a young adult.
LOVE is deep affection for someone and is based on a true desire
for the other person’s best interest.
COURTSHIP is the period in a couple’s relationship which precedes
their engagement and marriage or it is an establishing of an agreed
relationship of a more enduring kind. During courtship a couple gets to know
each other and decides if there will be an engagement or such agreement. A
courtship may be an informal and private matter between two people of the
opposite sex or may be a public affair or a formal arrangement with family
approval.
Why Is It Important for Couples to Undergo Courtship?
1. It gives a person time to know better the character and background of
someone being considered as one’s future lifetime partner.
2. Courting gives time to understand one another.
3. It reveals one’s interest, likes and dislikes, limitations, and aspirations
in life.
4. It allows couples to decide whether they ready to be committed.
5. It allows couples to decide to determine and focus on what to expect
in marriage.
6. It develops security and establishes respect for each other.
7. It develops understanding and acceptance.
DATING is a social activity which involves two or more people
generally assessing each other’s suitability for a potential relationships. It is a
form of courtship consisting of social activities done by two people, as
partners in an intimate relationship or as a spouse. The word dating
actually comes from the arrangement of a time and date of meeting.

Anger control – Anger can be handled in healthy ways such as

what the other might be feeling.
3: Factors that Contribute to Successful Marriage
Going steady is a period wherein the relationship between two people
remains strong and well.
ENGAGEMENT is a period of agreement entered between two
people in love for them to be able to know each other and their families well
enough to be sure that they are ready and are suited for life-long
companionship.
MARRIAGE is the most enjoyable human relationship. It is the most
significant event that may happen to one’s life. It takes only two people, a
man and a woman, to unite and make a successful relationship as married
couple. It is also a lifelong partnership of a man and a woman.
Factors to Consider in Choosing a Lifetime Partner
1. Good character – God-fearing, Responsible and honest, Hardworking, and
Respectful.
2. Maturity – Handles relationship responsibly, Make wise and well
thought out decisions.
3. Fidelity – Makes a relationship lasting, Consider the relationship sacred,
and sincere.
4. Commitment – Makes peaceful and lasting relationship, Dedicated in
fulfilling responsibilities.
5. Love – Strengthens the relationship with the partner, Understands one’s
partner, Endure till death.
6. Economic readiness – Aims for a better future of the family, Provide the
needs of the family, Maintain stable job or business that can support a
family.
7. Physical maturity – has a healthy body, Accepts and is proud of partner’s
physical features.
