The Indus Water Treaty was signed on September 19, 1960, between India and Pakistan to
peacefully manage and share the water resources of the Indus River and its tributaries. The goal
was to avoid conflicts and ensure a fair distribution of water for various purposes. The World Bank
facilitated the agreement.
Q.2:What had been done so far to increase the water supply In Pakistan according to Indus
water treaty?

Ans: The Indus Water Treaty, signed in 1960 between India and Pakistan, has
facilitated measures to boost water supply in Pakistan. Dams and barrages have been
constructed to regulate water flow and generate hydroelectric power. The treaty
allocates the six major rivers between the countries, ensuring a specified water share
for each. The establishment of the Permanent Indus Commission allows ongoing
discussions and conflict resolution regarding water distribution, fostering
cooperation and addressing concerns about water scarcity in the region.
