ELA Outsiders Review Answers Phillip Rodrigues 2/6/15 2. 1. The first character that was portrayed as I imagined was Johnny Cade. This is because in the book, they said that Johnny was short like Ponyboy and had dark tan skin. In the movie, Johnny is portrayed with dark tan skin and is almost the same size as Ponyboy, but a little bit taller. Johnny also looked just as innocent in the movie as he was in the book. He looked as if he would do what anyone asked him to. Dallas was also as I portrayed him in the book. In the movie, his face was somewhat elf like, which is just as I thought he looked like while reading the book. Another thing that was similar about Dallas was that I portrayed him as dangerous and unpredictable in the book, which means that he might do anything for his own gain. In the movie he is pretty much the same, dangerous and he is own independent person, always unpredictable. The only thing different is that throughout the whole movie you can see Dallas’ soft side for Johnny, which you only realize he has in the book until after Johnny dies. Many people were not as I predicted in the book. One person that was not as I predicted was Ponyboy. One way he was different was because in the book, it seemed like he needed help for everything, and he couldn’t do anything on his own. But in the movie, you can see that he acts more independent and wants and pleads to do many things on his own, like participating in the rumble, which he shouldn’t have joined in. Another difference about Ponyboy is his height and look. In the book, I picture him as a short fourteen year old, like at least 4 inches shorter than Johnny. But in the movie, Ponyboy is almost the same exact size as Johnny and looks more like a 16 year old, not a 14 year old. Another person that looked a little different than I expected was Darryl. In the book, they said that he was the man of the house, and he was in his early 20’s and his fatherly position made him look older than he was. In the movie, though, he looked more like a 19 year old or someone who just graduated high school, not a father figure.
