A Long Story, A Long Walk
By: Phillip Rodrigues
Before I start, let me tell you something. All we were trying to do was have dinner
and go back to our hotel but one wrong turn ruined everything. It was a long day of
sightseeing and strolling there to there in the beautiful city of Rome, Italy. We strolled
back to our hotel to get ready to go out and eat because we were really hungry. My mom,
who has long brown hair, always worries, and always wears fancy clothes when she’s out to
eat was making sure we were all clean and ready to go and eat. But, my sister Bella and I
gave her a hard time. My mom was trying to put my sister Bella’s blonde, curly hair in a
pony tail but she wouldn’t listen. Soon enough, we listened. Then my dad, who is never on
time, takes so long for his showers, and so long to get dressed and ready, made us wait
even longer.
We finally got to go to the room; two rooms away to pick up my cousins; Federica,
Nicole and Maria. Federica, who wears everyday clothes, doesn’t talk much, and has
glasses and right now is sitting on the bed. Nicole, who also has glasses, has black hair,
always fashionable, twins with Federica, and loves babies is lying on the bed right now.
Maria was up and ready to go. She’s is in her 30’s like my mom, also has black hair and
knows a lot about Italy. She is scared of everything and always has things with her just in
case you need them.
We left the hotel and went out to a pizzeria. We were so hungry. When I looked at
the bricks on the wall of the pizzeria and the creases in the cement, it reminded me of a
sandwich. We went inside to go have some pizza and then we left.
We were walking back to our hotel. We kept pacing and strolling. Then we turned
the wrong curb and kept strolling so happily. Thirty minutes later, we were still walking but
then we noticed… we were lost!
“Nicole, Federica, you live in Italy, do you know how to get back to the hotel?” my
Mom said frightened.
“Well, you know we live in Sicily, so, no, we don’t know how to get back to the hotel!”
my cousins said. So we tried steam-rolling this way and tried steam-rolling that way and we
just couldn’t advance to the hotel. We were walking and pacing until… I froze like I had
just been in a freezer for days.
“I found a hotel!” I yelped. We were in such relief and went inside. We asked the
man if he knew how to get back to our hotel. The guy said”No, sorry.” ”Auuuggghhh!” I said
with a head of steam. Then my sister fell asleep in her stroller. Then we kept walking.
“Let’s just face it, we’re lost” I said in a giving up voice. “Well, all your stuff is in
our hotel” my Mom said in a snickering voice. I took back what I said and kept walking. We
found a couple more hotels and no one knew how to get back to our hotel. I was very sad.
I was so tired and so upset that we couldn’t find our way home. We kept strolling and we
kept pacing until… I noticed these houses that we walked past like I have seen them
before… then I noticed… I actually did see these houses before! “Mom, Dad, I think we’re
near our hotel!” I screamed in excitement.
We kept walking and noticed that there was a hotel. We asked the guy at the
front desk if he knew where our hotel was and the guy said… “That hotel is only a couple
blocks away!” we were so excited. We kept walking and finally found our hotel. I went in
the lobby and jumped and cheered and screamed with joy. We went upstairs and dropped
off Federica, Nicole, and Maria. Then it was 1:30 in the morning when we got into ou
,m.r room. Then when we got in, we all plopped on the bed and went to sleep… in
excitement.
