Statement of Purpose Template and Guidance The Statement of Purpose is a core document as part of your application to BPP. We will use this document to evaluate whether you are suitable for your chosen programme of study and to confirm that you are a genuine and credible student. We are only able to offer a place to students who: Meet the academic and English entry criteria for the chosen programme Can demonstrate that the chosen programme will genuinely enhance their career goals Will meet the additional criteria set out by the UKVI to be granted a study visa* It is therefore extremely important that you put significant effort into completing this statement of purpose. Instructions 1. Read all the questions and do your own research 2. Complete each section. We expect a minimum of 350 words per section 3. Ask a colleague or friend to read your statement and give you feedback (you might want to do several drafts) 4. Make sure you are writing in your OWN words – DO NOT ‘cut and paste’ from websites or other resources 5. You can use a spell checker, but you will also need to proofread your statement for spelling and grammar (or you may ask a friend or colleague to do so) 6. Be honest – do not exaggerate on your achievements – remember you may be required to attend an interview by either BPP University or a representative of the UK Home Office to secure your visa and they will use this statement to ask questions 7. Make sure you allow enough time to complete this statement and to get it reviewed *Criteria include, ability to finance the course, appropriate personal circumstances, evidence of appropriate level of English, ability to clearly demonstrate that the programme of study will genuinely enhance your career prospects Additional Notes 1. If you are applying for a second Masters’ programme, please ensure you explain clearly why the second programme will help you with your future career 2. If you have not completed a programme at a previous institution (for example if you exited with a certificate or diploma) please explain why this happened 3. If your previous study is in a different academic discipline, please explain why you are changing 4. If there has been a time gap between your previous studies, please tell us what you have been doing during this time SECTION 1: Personal Introduction and Background This section should be used to introduce yourself and explain what you have studied/accomplished to date. Please include the following: Name and Age Where you are from What you have studied to date and what you have enjoyed learning Where have you learned English and how have you developed your language skills? What hobbies and work experience do you have? SECTION 2: BPP and your chosen programme of study This section should be used to explain what you want to do now. It should build on the previous section and should include the following: Why do you want to come to the UK to study/remain in the UK to study a second programme? Why have you chosen BPP University over other universities? Why did you apply for your chosen programme of study? What is it about the BPP programme which interests you? Why are you suitable for the course? How does this course relate to what you have studied before? SECTION 3: Your Future Career This section should be used to explain what you want to do in the future. It should build on the previous section and should include the following: What job do you want to do in the future? Where would you like to work? How does your chosen programme of study help you reach your career goal? How will studying in the UK help you to reach your career goal?
