No Read, No Write: Story of MangDeolito
Conflict Identification
In the novel poverty is one of the country's major issues, and Mang Deolito's family is no
exception. As they went through a period of poverty, Mang Deolito had lost an opportunity to
study in school. It reminds us that not everyone, especially those of us who are not privileged
enough, can have access to education, especially to those who suffer from poverty. Despite his
desire to attend school, Mang Deolito chose to work instead in order for his siblings to be able to
study. It must have been difficult for Mang Deolito to witness this at a young age. His siblings go
to school and work hard to achieve their goals. Instability in the financial markets is a major
impediment to growth. Mang Deolito was up unable to read or write as a result of his lack of
schooling.
Plan of Action
In response to the issue raised, I believe that this type of issue should be addressed in the
community in a way that benefits the family and prevents other children from growing up
without knowing how to read or write. A simple survey, as well as a lecture or teaching workshop
in small towns, could perhaps certainly help alleviate the problem. Everything, as we all know,
begins in tiny quantities, and every small move we take could make a difference. Starting with
little communities and projects like this is a terrific approach to changing people's life
perspectives.
Reflection
Not just by being a CWTS student but as a person, my heart was touched by the story of Mang
Deolito. It made me realize that not all people were given the same privileges. Everyone is
different when it comes to dealing with life's obstacles. It's a dreadful way of life to put one's
future on hold and work hard to get by. As a result, I consider myself fortunate since, unlike some
people who work hard but have been unable to learn, I am able to study without difficulty. This is
a significant real-life occurrence that most of our country's youth have witnessed.
