THE SIGNIFICANT ROLES PLAYED BY FOOD IN SOCIETY -MATTIA FRINCHILLUCCI Regardless some people does not pay much attention to what they eat, undeniably food plays a key role in our everyday life. This is why many sociologists assume that it effects the society under different aspects. On the one hand, as far as food’s nutritional power is concerned, it has a huge impact on our health. Both mind and body need good nutrients to stay healthy and work properly. Not only must we eat to not have hunger, but it is needed to choose carefully what we consume to get the most suitable nutrients. If we always feel tired, we should eat more vegetables and fruits. If we want to get shredded, we should follow a hypocaloric diet and take many proteins, and so on… On the other hand, food ability to bring people together could be taken into account, too. Undoubtedly, I can safely assume that eating to socialise is a common cliché. When eating good-tasting food, all social interactions are easier. This is why to know new people or keep in touch with others, food may play a key role. In fact, It is not a case that on holidays families usually gather in the dining room. To conclude, food plays significant roles in the society, but some are more effective than others. I feel that of the two ones mentioned above, the former has more effectiveness. In fact, we can socialise even if not eating with others, but it is impossible to achieve an healthy lifestyle without taking the right nutrients.
