HOW TO APPLY SUCCESSFULLY LET’S START DOING. WELCOME TO NEWTON We are a UK-based specialist in operational improvement, Newton was started in 2001 by three friends - Tom, Kevin, and Andy. They believed consulting ought to be done differently. It shouldn’t be about just delivering reports, it ought to be about implementing solutions that achieve measurable results. Since then, Newton has brought a distinct way of working to the industry. Fuelled by the belief that even the best organisations can be better, we work side-by-side with our clients, understanding the problem, analysing the data and providing impactful solutions where they are needed the most. Our work takes on some of the largest and most complicated challenges in the public, consumer, and Defence & Infrastructure sectors, delivering and implementing the changes that will create the greatest impact. We believe so strongly in what we do, that we guarantee our fees against delivering results. WE ARE GUIDED BY OUR VALUES – Fun, friendship, and high performance. ? A consultancy is an external company brought in by a client in an advisory capacity, with the aim of implementing a change that the client couldn’t do alone. THERE ARE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF CONSULTING, INCLUDING: Strategy Consulting Operations Consulting HR Consulting Financial Advisory IT Consulting At Newton, we are predominantly focussed on Operations Consulting and offer Operational Improvement to clients across categories and industries. OPERATIONS CONSULTING INCLUDES: Organisational Operations Sales & Marketing Supply Chain Sourcing & Procurement Finance Business Process Management Research & Development Outsourcing Our Digital Consultants drive value to our clients in much the same way that operational consultants to - but are specialised in areas where our clients’ biggest problems require a level of expertise in data and technology. We anchor our digital offering around 6 core capabilities: • • • • • • Value from systems and technology The right data, trusted Compelling Digital Experiences Insight-Driven Decision Making Harnessing the power of advanced data science Digital Culture and Ecosystem To set your mind at ease, there is no expectation of coding experience required before joining the digital team. Several of our digital consultants didn’t have any before they became a part of the team. We believe a passion and likely aptitude for this type of work is far more important. Coding is a valuable tool and central to a lot of the work we do, but certainly not the full scope of digital - there are digital consultants who spend relatively little time writing code, and have more of a focus on product management, systems integration, product design, or any other activity required to deliver a great digital product. VIDEO INTERVIEW The next stage of the application process is a video interview. Communication is a key part of being a consultant at Newton as we build relationships with clients and our teams and need to adapt our communication style to communicate effectively at all levels of a business. This is the first chance we get to see you, so we encourage you to be yourself and really let your personality shine through. Below highlights the structure of the interview. 1. COMPETENCY QUESTIONS You will be asked seven questions and the video interview shouldn’t take any longer than 25 minutes to complete. The first section consists of five competency-based questions. Candidates don’t need to over-prepare but you should think about your key achievements to date and key qualities/ skills and do some research into who Newton are and what they do. TOP TIPS: 2. TECHNICAL QUESTIONS You will be presented with a scenario and then asked to do some calculations and present a response back (two minutes for calculations, one minute to respond). The key thing Newton want to see here is how you can clearly, concisely and simply talk through your thought process. The advice we give is: ‘Imagine you are onsite and are explaining what you are doing to a colleague or manager'. TECHNICAL TIPS: ou have a week to complete the VI Y (but can self-extend, like the online test), so take time to prepare Treat this like a real interview ring a calculator and some B rough paper Test out the lighting before hand – you don’t want to be whited out or sat in darkness e yourself and showcase your B personality Interviews are marked by real people! – so wear something smart Make sure you clear your background Let anyone you live with know you’ll be doing an interview so keep the background noise down Make the most of the mic and video test in the VI platform newtoneurope @NewtonEurope /newton europe limited
