I HAVE TO DO LETS SOLVE THE MYSTERY JOHARI WINDOW Learning Objective I can apply the Johari Window concept to discuss how one can interpret their own identity. These window panes represent our personality. AREANA The information that you know about yourself and that others also know. The obvious things, e.g. name, height, weight, etc. Things you tell others when you introduce yourself. All the info.you want others to know ARENA Hidd en Aren a Contains all that information that we don,t want others to know about us. Closet of feelings, insecurities and notso-great experiences or our failures The private information ARENA B lin d Sp ot Information that others know about you, but you don’t know about yourself. Example: you are a good listener, you snore, body language, you are charismatic about things etc We may feel that we are not a good listener or talker, but our friends may feel dif ferently. ARENA BLIND SPOT Un k n ow n Aren a Information that you don’t know and others don’t know. Could be abilities and potentials that you have not discovered about yourself yet Example:You could be an amazing Public Relations Rep, or Guidance Counselor but you just wouldn’t know that yet. ARENA BLIND SPOT What’s the POINT? Information can move f r o m one pane t o the next as you develop mutual trust, share hopes and dreams, and find similarities and things in common w i t h others. We get over our differences and start t o trust each other as classmates and teammates. Two key ideas behind the tool O Individuals can build trust between themselves by disclosing information about themselves. O They can learn about themselves and come to terms with personal issues with the help of feedback from others. O Using the Johari model, each person is represented by their own four-quadrant, or four-pane, window. Each of these contains and represents personal information feelings, motivation - about the person, and shows whether the information is known or not known by themselves or other people. Key Points: O In most cases, the aim in groups should be to develop the Arena for every person. O Working in this area with others usually allows for enhanced individual and team effectiveness and productivity. The Arena is the ‘space’ where good communications and cooperation occur, free from confusion, conflict and misunderstanding. O Self-disclosure is the process by which people expand the Arena vertically. Feedback is the process by which people expand this area horizontally. O By encouraging healthy self-disclosure and sensitive feedback, you can build a stronger and more effective team.
